Ryan Godfrey's my nephew, when Ericsson4 completed that race he flew to The West Coast of the US, joined the crew of Alfa Romeo for the Trans Pacific race, broke the race record by a day, then sailed the boat across the Pacific from Hawaii to New Zealand for a refit.

I only sailed for a few years, raced off shore at the RSAYS on Ryan's fathers boat.

I was never over keen, preferred fishing, than I got married, took a 7 day a week job and that was that.

Most good sailors start in dinghies, a lot of ocean and off shore racing is just brute strength and hard work, something I used to know a bit about but have since eschewed.

A Merlin Chevy is always good for getting the heartbeat up......
