And covering the teapot in a tea cosy that was knitted by someone's grandmother is a must, as are the digestive biscuits daintly placed in the saucer ready for convenient dunking. Ah, them were the days. :D

I became acquainted with the 'tea culture' in the UK when I came there to live from California and I noticed the phenomenon of 'tea cosys' (also 'tea caddies' and 'biscuit tins'...)...then some local journalist described a rasta as 'having a tea cosy on his head'...then I said to a mate from Pasadena on the 'phone 'hey look, they got these knitted jackets that they put around a teapot to keep it hot and it looks like the same thing that rastas wear to contain their dreads...'

my mate couldn't resist as he was a brilliant mimic and was from Pasadena with a large black community and all of us white boys grew up with the local patois and he commented: 'dat boy he cool wid dat tea cosy on his hayed...'

later a brit was to remark meaningfully when I had served him a cup of tea: 'this is a very good cup of tea...'...it meant the world to me as he was a cheap bastid that would only drink tea if there were no free alcoholic beverages available...someone said that his childhood was deprived as his folks in the north of England were too cheap to heat their house in the winter...

brrrr, no heat means no hot water and they probably had to shit in the stone cold outdoor crapper in the back garden as well...

brrrrr.....

Aren't coffee plungers those things you stick up your bum for a deep cleaning experience. Colonic irrigation or something along those lines. By the way do you add cream and sugar? :D

I'm not sure if it's wise to stick cream and sugar up your bum.

I've always been a tea granny. I usually make a whole pot full which gives me two big mugs and a half. I prefer a blend of orange Pekoe and what is locally called "raspberry thriller". I add a touch of lemon to that. In fact that is what I had for supper tonight along with fresh baked cinnamon buns with lots of the sticky stuff.

Dear Dad,

What is supper, is that another meal after the main dinner meal, which was after smoko and afternoon tea, which wasnt that long after lunch, prior to that you had morning smoko and breakfast when you woke up?

Im amazed ur still all prick and ribs ;)

Well son, it's like this....

Ah, hmmm, what were we talking about?

Oh yah, eatin n drinkin and such.

Here in Canada we would normally refer to meals by separate terminology.

1. Breakfast needs no explanation

2. Mid day meal could be "Lunch" if it is a light meal such as soup or a sandwich, or "Dinner" if more like a formal meal with all the trimmings.

3. The main evening meal is normally called "Supper" but is often confused with "Dinner" and sometimes are one and the same thing.

4. Snacks are something to tide us over BETWEEN proper meals.

I usually only have one or two proper meals in a day, and supplement that with fruit. Sometimes I don't eat anything until the afternoon, and then not again not until early evening (8 PM). I have a very irregular life style and often I stay up until 3AM or later. But, if I'm going fishing with friends I'll get up before dawn and be on the water at first light.

Girly got on here

<deleted> Patsy, let me see, are you just waking up as you posting or perhaps long overdue for a nap?

I think i was long overdue a catnap!!!

But up now all bushy tailed and bright eyed. It's great as we get older we do not suffer the pain and "I'll never drink again" hangovers we had in our early twenties!!

It's aperitif time here. But I am in a quandry - Murray is playing Federer - who to want to win... Being Scottish and living in Swissland? It's almost as bad as watching Ireland playing Scotland at rugger.
