Ivf Treatment

Featured Replies

Had a vasectomy about 17 years ago, today I visited a Government hospital and was told that my chances of having a child after a reversal would be around 20% at that hospital. THe doctor then suggested IVF, my brother and his wife just had a lovely boy using this method, and I would be willing to go ahead and give it a try.

Does anyone know of some good hospitals, maybe names of good specialists and approx prices if possible.

If anyone has had IVF, how many times did you have to have it before it worked?

thanks in advance

For info am under 45years old, had the Op done after my second child from my first marriage, which went down the drain about 7 years later.

If money is not a factor, try Jetanin on Chidlom, next to the McDonald or simply go to BNH off silom.

We look into this recently after a year of trying, we went to pa-ya-thai 2 (fortunately no longer needed.) They were doing a special offer when we were there of 3 cycles for around £2800. I was really happy with the service and the doctor there.

I am a bit confused as to why the leap to IVF, unle4ss there is a problem on your wife's side that you did nto mention.

Otherwise sperm retrieval and artifical insemination would seem a more logical approach, at least initially, and certainly far less expensive.

How successful this will be depends on whether they are able to retrieve viable sperm, won't know till they try.

Will normally take a few attempts but it is noweher near as costly as IVF.

We thought our only options were:

IVF

ICSI

IUI

Also a reversal at a better hospital might be another viable solution.

Did think that AI was now called IUI, and this was not viable as I have to produce the sperm and pass them normally which I cannot do as I have had the vasectomy.

To my understanding the first recourse recommeneded is usually a vasectomy reversal. Success greatly varies with the type of procedure and skill/experience of the doctor. See this link for thorough dicussion:

Vasectomy Reversal explained by World-Leading Vasectomy Reversal Specialist Dr. Sherman Silber of the Infertility Center of St. Louis

If vasectomy reversal is done, they can retrieve and store sprem in the process so that should pregnancy fail to occur, sperm is already available and can proceed to ICSI as a back up.
