how do you find your own ip address?

Go to one of the many sites that offer the service to show your ip address.

Do a Google search for "my ip" without the quotes.

Alternatively, you could install an add-on to browsers like FireFox to show your IP.

type

ipconfig

on the command line (windows)

or

ifconfig

if it is Gnu/Linux (MAC ?)

That will give you the ip of your computer.

If you want to know the public ip of your router, which is what other people will see if they look at your communication from outside, the best way to find out is to look in your routers admin page...

Anyone know how to change or hide it:ph34r: to avoid Thai censorship?

It is illegal according to what I heard....

You can read about the Tor network but read carefully.... don't do anything stupid!

Windows XP:

Start > Run type "command"

at the prompt type ipconfig

All your ip address info will be shown (You want the ipv4 info)

One post delete that discussed evading government censors.

You can also just use ThaiVisa to check your IP address. At the top of the page you will see a menu titled "Speedtest". Click this and a pull down menu appears, then select "Your IP Address". After a few seconds it will come back with your IP address and show you other informaiton on your ISP, to include a map of where the ISP is located. Cheers.

thanks guys, thats interesting, claims i live in bangkok, guess that has something to do with the internet provider being in bangkok.

Yeap, it identifies "your" IP address being issued out by the ISP's server; and where ever the the ISP's server is, that is where your location will be identified as although it's really just the location of the ISP's server.

But it gave you what you wanted--your IP address of the day/hour/etc., since I'm assuming you don't have a static IP address and you are setup for dynamic IP issue. A dynamic IP address is issued out by the ISP on a periodic/changing basis, probably at least once every 24 hours for most/all Thai ISPs. TOT issues out a new dynamic IP address at least every 24 hours....and turn your modem off & on and you'll get a new IP address under a dynamic IP setup.

It's more accurate to use the Start -> Run -> CMD -> ipconfig

than to use websites that shows the browsers IP.

ipconfig show the ip of your computer... websites shows your public IP on the WAN side of your router... your browser does not have an IP.
