Best Bargains On Spirits At Duty Free

Featured Replies

I often wonder what to buy for my one bottle when landing at the airport.

What from duty free is the best deal offering the most savings?

I like whisky, vodka, rum, bit of gin.

Are there any brands from the above that are a lot cheaper at duty free than in the rest of Thailand?

Thanks

I guess the biggest savings are to be had on the highest priced items.

So check out the Blue Label and Gold label.

And if you have the King Power card you get another 5% discount.

I admit I haven't taken too much notice of the prices at King Power. What I have noticed is the prices at Big C seem about the same for alcohol. I would rather shop there than with those thieving .... at King Power.

How do I get a KP card?

At the back end of departures opposite gate 7 there's a King Power desk where you can apply for a card.

It's not for tourists and I don't know what sort of visa is acceptable as I have a 1 year O.

It use to be free but now you pay 500 Baht and get 500 Baht in vouchers to use, easily spent on a bottle of booze.

I also found DF to be cheaper at arrivals than departures but at departures you could get deals on buying 2 bottles in the form of freebies. You can't buy 2 bottles on arrival so there's no freebies.

Thanks, will look for a card.

I'm sure I've bought 2-4-1 on arrivals into BKK? Perhaps not...

I like the Bombay Blue Gin, which is my favourite DF buy.

Also, remember that DF is usually higher "proof/volume" on all spirits, than town shopping

I pay the same or less for 1 Litre 47o Bombay Blue than 70CL 40o in Tesco-Lotus/Big C/Carrefour

Well worth the extra proofage :burp: Double the kick or use half the amount or less!

Supermarket prices are as good or better than king power, and you can put it in checked luggage and be done with it.

Thaniya Spirits on Thaniya road, about 2 doors down from O'Reilly's on Silom Road, has a large selection of spirits at very, very good prices. Well worth a visit if you are into single malt whiskies stc. No need to wait for your next overseas trip.

Right now you don't need any KP card to get 500 baht off DF purchases. They are handing out red discount coupons (500 baht/coupon) as you enter immigration on departure. Last week they gave me 2 coupons, last night they gave me 6. Also, once you purchase something (I bought a liter of Jack and box of Romeo y Julieta cigars and got 1000 baht off by using my 'Fast-Track' discount voucher), they gave me ANOTHER 500 baht coupon (valid for 500 baht off purchases > 1000 baht) that is only valid for the day... this one is yellow coloured.

Do your sums right before you hit the shops and you can do quite well; I got 1040 bahts worth of chocolate for 540 baht as well as the above discount on liquor and stogies.

I really only buy single malts, so usually get a 1L bottle for ~ 15% less than a 700 ml bottle of same in town. Still a significant savings, when you factor in the extra 300 ml.
