Remake Of Karate Kid Quite Entertaining

Featured Replies

Yes, I know this is mass market lowbrow entertainment, but this new movie actually did deliver big time on the entertainment. With Jackie Chan, yes he's old, but he's still good. Expats to Thailand may also relate to some of the feeling of westerners relocated to Asia (in this case, Detroit to Beijing).

Of course the "kid" steals the show ...

What a load of overly-analytical crap. The movie concerns China, rather than Japan, because the star is Chinese. All the rest is dogmatic delusion. I might like the film, but the so-called review bites.

Stick with the original.

Waxing on and off lyrically?

Best to see the movie before commenting on the commentary.

If the movie has anything at all to do with the annoying review, I rather not bother.  :bah:

Interesting. My reaction is exactly the opposite.

I had absolutely no interest in seeing this movie until I read this review. Now I'm intrigued. You can learn alot about any period in history by watching films of the period. Even without visual cues, I think most of us could guess the decade of any motion picture just by reading the script and examining the context in which it is set.

I am very curious to see how this is portrayed now. Certainly the decline of America and the shift towards the East is in full swing right now. I'd like to see what kind of symbolism they use to convey that message. Whereas I am not interested too much in mindless entertainment, this review has made me think that there may be some deeper issues in this particular film that make it worth considering.

I might actually check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

Enjoy. I'm sure that it will be most intellectually stimulating.

I thought the movie was ok. A bit lightweight. Great for kids. Was quite sweet. My attention span wavered a bit though.

I liked the relationship between Jackie Chan and Will Smiths kiddy. I think the kid really put a lot of effort into it.

I can put up with a lot of useless drivel if there are one or two good bits in a movie. It might be only one scene that makes it worth while. I like Jackie Chan and if Will Smith's kid is anything like his dad then it will be okay. Nobody expects a highbrow picture.

I thought it was pretty good fun. Worth a look if you fancy getting out of the afternoon sun for a couple of hours.
