PATTAYA: -- A Russian national has been arrested for his involvement in a child prostitution network operating in Pattaya. The arrest follows Sundays bust on a Thai man thought to be the main agent in the operation involved with procuring young boys for largely foreign clientele.

Pattaya, the 5th of July 2010 [PDN]: Investigators from the Children & Woman’s Protection Center along with the Welfare Protection & Child Development Center successfully apprehended Mr. Traiphop Bunphasong [40] on Sunday, with follow-up investigations leading to the arrest of another offender, of Russian nationality.

Head of investigations, Lieutenant Colonel Ormsin Sukkankha, revealed the arrest of Mr. Tlener Mikhail [53] a Russian national, believed to be involved with procuring and providing children for sexual services to visiting foreigners in Pattaya. Stories like this in Pattaya / Thailand are past commenting on.............except you do not normally hear about "suspected culprits" from the Soviet block ?

But I suppose nationality is no boundary to this wanton depravity....

Nothing really surprising here ... as one who visits Pattaya on an irregular basis, I have noticed less Westerners and more Arabs and Russians each time I visit.

Pattaya operates on the laws of supply and demand. There is a demand for underage boys and girls and it is filled by both locals and foreigners.

There are a few boys in Pattaya who are 16 and 17yo and LOOK older and use ID cards of friends who are 18-19yo so they can work in bars. Some of these boys work WITH the Police ... so be extra careful who you take back to your hotel.

The local Police have a poor record in the North end of town with the Russian underworld. Good to see some police work done regardless of nationality/ real or perceived connections.

" Mr. Pletnev was taken back to his house at the Areeya Villas off Soi Siam Country Club where many CD’s containing pornographic images and movies were found along with sexual stimulants. Although no images were found containing minors, information from Khun Traipop who was arrested on Sunday, suggests he would provide under boys to Mr. Pletnev on a regular basis. For now Mr. Pletnev, who also runs a Private Piano Tuition School from his house, has been remanded in custody pending further investigations and gathering of further evidence."

So the only evidence they have is the word of a scumbag Thai Man ? listen if this Russian Man is Guilty then he will deserve all he gets providing he doesn't pay his way out.

But he may just as easilly be innocent,i'm sure we will never find out as these things have a way of sorting themselves out :realangry:

Wonder why the Pattaya Daily News story is so vastly different from the Pattaya One story! In the first, this Russian is said to be guilty of a vast number of particularly dreadful offences. In the second one, it's all been trimmed down and now he is remanded pending further investigation. I agree 100% that if he's guilty of any, he deserves what's coming to him. But the way the official story seems to have changed, something here smacks of a possible frame-up. How come the name is radically different? Might there in fact be two men involved here, and the police have mixed them in together? Reading other articles about the Thai man arrested on Sunday , I have a suspicion all may not be as it seems.

I hope someone will post here the interview Mr Peltnev has given today to the Pattaya Daily News. Whilst I again trust that those guilty of child molestation in any form are punished to the full extent of the law, the man being interviewed hardly seems someone running a child prostituton ring or involved in any other prostitution matters. I say that not because it turns out he is a world famous musician (he's a feted Grammy Award winner) and so his visits to Thailand must be relatively few and far between, plus his concert schedule (available on the internet) shows he spends most of his time working around the world. I say it more because of his willingness to answer any question and his apparent honesty in the answers. His home is described as "palatial" - again not the usual pedophile type of residence. But it would, in my view, provide a pretty strong motive for a sting operation. A quick check on google shows that Mr Pletnev's reputation around the world is now horribly tarnished. If indeed innocent, I hope he will go all the way to court to disprove the lies being told about him and put the scam artists in jail. But would he get a fair hearing after all of yesterday's publicity?
