Addicted To Love...

Addicted to love... The REAL reason we turn to wine and chocolate when heartbroken

As any woman who's been left heartbroken will testify, comfort eating is all too easy. Now scientists have established a reason for the behaviour. Jilted woman have a higher tendency to turn to wine and chocolate because their bodies are trying to compensate for an addiction to love.

New research published today linked rejection in romance to brain activity associated with addiction cravings. It showed that primitive instincts to do with motivation and survival are activiated when people are reminded of their lost relationships.

Full story.

I'm the opposite. When i am sad, I stop eating. And then afterwards binge eat.

Agree, true sadness/grief and I stop eating as well. If I am just feeling a little down or PMSy then chocolate.

I stop eating after I seperated from my husband I did not eat for 3 days... Which turned out to be a good thing.. Those few extra pounds put on while fighting with him all the time came right off..

Im the same..if real grief and upset i cannot eat. I have to force food into me if several days go by. Then its like trying to swallow tasteless lumps of rock. Tastebuds go out the window too. (Its vivid in my mind because a week or so ago i was dealing with something that really upset me and i couldnt eat for several days).

However, if feeling a bit down or pms'y (same as sbk), then i love having a chocolate pick-me-up. Funny, cuz i rarely eat chocolate unless i feel a bit down or pmsy.

Have to agree. When I received a terrible shock a few years ago (and was distraught, not to mention heart-broken), I lost a couple of stone in a month and a half!

Anything that 'gets' to me, turns me off food.

But I do know other people that turn to food for comfort.

I suspect it depends on how traumatised you are - and your personality type.

Not to upset Migs too much - but, I don't like chocolate (and I live in Chocoland!!)

If i were to turn to anything to relieve stress it would be a big bag of cheese and onion crisps or chips.

I am more savoury than sweet. Even though I have a sweet character.

its ok Patsy. I actually love people who dont eat chocs - more for me
