Paying Off A Car

Featured Replies

I bought 2 cars in my wifes name and I am ready to pay off the loan on one of them. Does anyone know what papers I should expect to receive from the bank that holds the loan after the loan has been settled? In the USA the bank sends you the original title in the mail within a few weeks after you have paid off a vehicle and then you need to go register it and title it in your own name.

Most finance companies will complete a transfer to your wifes name, and you can pick up the book at their office within 2-3 weeks.

No inspection of car needed for this, unlike every other transfer of ownership

All you need to get is the Tabien Rot (blue book) with an entry showing that the vehicle is now in your name. If you give the finance company a few days notice of your intentions it's sometimes even possible to get this on the same day you pay the finance out - at least that's been my experience the 3 times I've done it..

yepp, they all keep the books at main office in BKK, so giving them a notice, book can be mailed to branch prior to pay out, transfer can be completed same day
