Red Shirt Rally Today

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just went out of the Moo bahn where I live and saw around 2,000 red shirted people swarming around the area of suan siam (Bangkapi). Went to take a further look and it turns out that it is in fact another red shirt rally together with the same speeches being given from loud speakers inside suan siam, the sellers with the red t-shirts, banners, recordings of older speeches, postcard and poster sized photo's of the red leaders, etc.

This thing will never end, they will just find other places to go to protest and make their speeches and then people wonder why the PM wont lift the state of emergency!

Falcon

since they are at suan siam one can only hope another ride will malfunction, and decimate their membership.

I guess you don't care for them, and frankly I don't care for them, but I have to remind everyone that in a Democracy the right to a peaceful assembly to air your grievences with the government is allowed. As long as they are peacefully assembling they have the right to do it.

The rules are the same for everyone, even the a--holes. It has to be that way.

Even Democracies limit protests during times of strife and Bangkok is is still in a state of emergency because of the takeover of downtown and the riots barely two months ago.

The problem seems to have been with the 'peaceful' bit.

Is it peaceful to force the closure of an airport or 2?

Is it peaceful to bring crowds to the Nation's CBD to protest? I guess initially it was. Became less than peaceful - that's for sure.

Hope this time all can voice their opinions peacefully. I fear however that these decision's come from leaderships that are inherently evil.

I humbly suggest that to say "the rules are the same for everyone" is a little bit wishful, and still years or decades away in LOS.

Wonder if similar protests happening elsewhere. How centrally organised?

When's the election? Has it been announced? A firm election date would help the shift from protesting to campaigning; which generally has less casualties and bad press.

Where is General Suchinda when you need him?

They are campaigning there's a by-election tomorrow.

Could this be an indication they think they will lose?

The opposition Puea Thai Party on Saturday issued a statement saying it was ready to join the national reconciliation plan if Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva lifts a state of emergency in Bangkok and other 15 provinces.

In its statement, read out by deputy party leader Plodprasop Surassawadee, the party said the call for a revocation of emergency decree by the National Reform Committee chaired by Anand Panyarachun was justified and the government must listen to and rapidly take action.

“This is because the imposition of emergency law is against the effort to bring about reconciliation to the country. It is an unusual use of power and opening a chance of overuse of the power”, the statement said.

The opposition camp affirmed that Puea Thai has a strong determination to discuss ways to bring back peace and order with the government, and it hoped that the government would not reject this good intention.
