Kit Cars....Again

Featured Replies

What pitfalls, if any, could be encountered if one were to import a kit car for track use only? I wonder what the tax would be, would it be better to ship it in multiple shipments? Could some of it be shipped as 2nd hand car parts?

A Co Kart Track owner in Thepprasit Rd, Pattaya, had a couple Lambo Kit Kars for Track use on private ground. They confiscated them all. Story is about 10 years ago.

Because the dip$hits in charge here require you to register everything for road use regardless..

AND off road use. :)

Yes, that's what the word in bold type above means... As in regardless of purpose...

oh well, suppose we gotta take the bad with the good livin here. Such a shame though

Its roughly like this, cars must be registered, they do check our racecars. Alternatively you can do a temporary import for a maximum period, but you must pay a deposit. That's the official way for getting a race car in. If you have the temp import you can use it on track, think it should be for officially sanctioned events only and then after that you bring the car out again.... Thats what they do with the dragester etc and international race cars.

surely you don't mean the same registration that a typical road car has. Or can u drive yr porsche on public roads?

Yes he does and yes he can that's the silly of it.. As I understand it the temporary is 6 months...But just like visa runs you can take it out of the country and re-enter and get a new 6 month period, might be worth it depending..

Curious what constitutes "officially sanctioned" the new European classic series runs with sanctioned events as well doesn't it? Therefore considered sanctioned..

Why import? Check this out ~~~ Might help http://www.westfield-sportscars-thailand.com/

TBWG :wai:

well whats that all about?? They're saying you can build yr own trackcar right here in LOS

The claim that track cars in TH are registered and able to drive on public roads seems incredible.

as Warp said, yes, technically I can drive it on the road. If you don't want hassle you have afull regsitration.

can you build your own go kart for use on a track then? sounds like no if you need it to be street legal and registered or am i completely misunderstanding this?

Yes, I know this answer is obvious but since they are never considered street legal they don't require registration..

Didn't know that walking street was considered a track...........A dirt track maybe :D

Ok this is a bit weird. How would it be possible to register a 1/4 mile dragster when you have to pass one of  the most stringent emissions testing in the world here in Thailand (its between euro3 and the new upcoming 2012 euro4).

As far as i was aware if you ave paid the 3% Customs tax/duty then your a golden. You can transport your vehicle and use it off public highway. At least thats what happens with offroad bikes (motocross etc)

the only way to explain it is that Thailand is a contradiction in terms ..

I assume they want the money because you cannot guarantee that the car will ONLY be used for track use. It is not only honest people who would import cars for "track" use if you could do it without paying.

Good point but confiscation would do it for me, if I was threatened with confiscation for driving my beloved whatever race car on the road I'd surely keep it track use only..

anything RAAT approved is considered sanctioned, but I understand you can test also (for sanctioned events) that gives you a free hand to do what you like. The first cars are already coming in for bansaen I saw.

Even some trcakdays are sanctioned events
