'ol Steely Dan...a favorite band from the 70s...always thought that they were a west coast outfit but apparently not...

 

folks at SF State thought that they were a mysterious ensemble comprised of session musicians as none of the principals had a previous association with with any of the 'major' acts at the time...they played small venues around the SF Bay Area and would always sell out...

 

never managed to see them meself...just tapped along to the music on the radio...

DB- thank you so much for bringing Mick Softley to my attention. i had never heard of him before yet what a character and musician he was. Refusing to take money for gigs, playing for free, etc he was an inspiration for Donovan  and others. He just passed away last Friday aged 77.

Fred McDowell- what can one say? Wonderful simple blues that once heard, lies embedded in the brain stem, the riffs an integral part of the nervous system.
