English Man And His Thai Wife Commit Double Suicide In Pattaya

Some newspapers quote debts of a mere one million baht. However my sources reveal that the debts were closer to 30 million baht.

Even so, it is a very tragic event and after so many years for them both living comfortably in Thailand (15+ years I am informed) the financial ruin approaching was too much to bear.

Regarding the dog: If the dog had been on the other side of the doors, it surely would have become noisy and alerted neighbours to their home and their suicide attempt. Ideally the dog would have been taken elsewhere and given a trusted friend for keeping until after the events.

Condolences to friends and family, of which there are many.

Not to be species-ist, but I am, they were much more important than the dog. It would have been awkward to give to a friend, what would you say, keep the pooch while we off ourselves? I suppose they could have put it in boarding, not sure what happens to dogs if the owners never come back.

what did the dog ever do ?

What would the dog do if it were left alive. It's always those left behind that suffer most.

I don't know what method they used but hopefully their deaths were painless, at least in the physical sense.

Very sad RIP

Just looked at the article and it seems it would have been painless as far as I know.

Some people believe they have the right to choose to die. Saying suicide is selfish implies that others have more right to demand people keep living. It can't be argued that others have more rights over ones life than one self.

:clap2: Personally I think it's more selfish to expect others to live their life just for the favor of others especially when those others have likely not opened their eyes to the pain of the suicidal victims, pain is not always physical but it is ALWAYS a symptom of suicide..

I guess I see what they were thinking, that the dog would end up on the street and suffer and die anyway, but the dog didn't commit suicide, it was murdered.

As the dog is a property, not a person, it cannot be murder.

It is a very sad case but in the end the exercised the ultimate control over their life's and took control, choosing to end it rather than facing a very harsh future. I can think of much worse way to go then calmly go to sleep in the arms of the one I love...

RIP

Let's not get anal about this, how about it was killed against it's consent? I don't care what the law says, a dog is not a thing, it's a living animal. I did say I understand what they did and I don't condemn them for any of it. RIP.

Why do some people keep going on about the dog? A far bigger concern is the family members who are left to try to make sense of this and sort out the emotional and financial mess they've left behind.

Sure, it was a nice dog but, come on guys, it was a dog. There are half a dozen people's lives which have been pretty much wrecked by all this.

As my Fathers business is being discussed in public I would like to set the record straight: These were two very caring people who were very distressed at the impact their situation was having on the lives of their friends and family they have left detailed instructions to clear any debts they may have. For those concerned about the dog Judy, she was a much loved aging dog who would have pined without them and to be with them was the kindest thing they could have done for her.

You make good comments, but I think there is a curiosity factor to the dog aspect of it. Suicides sadly are very common, double suicides less common, but when you add in the dog who died but of course was incapable of suicide, I think it kind of piques people's interest a bit more. You can say that is bad but I would say it's human nature. Also as you might know, there is a strong taboo in Buddhist Thailand against putting down dogs, thus the street dogs and also some mass shelters for them. Edited by Jingthing

I'm very sorry for the loss that you and your family are feeling now.

Often, people can relate to a story because there is something they also have in their lives. Hence, the details about the dog brought quite a few comments because a dog is something many people have. They are just trying to make a connection between this story and themselves.

It is a shame that there was no alternative.

I speak for myself and all my friends who knew them. I had the greatest respect, for him and his wife. It came as a great shock to myself as well as family and friends. But knowing them as I did, this would have been the final straw. They were a devoted couple and knowing the circumstances, I feel they chose to be together forever, not face the torment and torture that life had to offer.

I also speak on behalf of all my friends in England and Thailand to their families:

We do not offer criticism, just our condolences to the you all- God Bless

RIP

My condolences go out to everyone who knew them.

It would have been better if the suicides were prevented. People who were close to them should have seen the signs and helped.

Suicide is not a socially acceptable solution to business failure or debts. People need to be responsible for their businesses and finances, and that means adapting to changing market conditions, savvy budgeting and risk management and not putting all eggs in the one basket.

Knowing the signs of suicide is one thing; doing anything about it a whole different matter. Even in some of the most secure settings, people manage to take their own lives. I am sure those that are close to the victims are feeling a great deal of guilt. I don't think we have to exacerbate their grief.

There is very, very little that can be done to prevent suicide when people are determined to do it. This is probably especially true when it is a double suicide.

Exactly, they made a choice by the look of it, and who is anyone to change that, sad as it may be for the remaining family, it is NOT their choice, it was the two people involved (bar the dog) and their choice should be respected.

Do any of us really have the right to pontificate over the actions of the two deceased people?

They (the deceased) took a decision based on what the scenario was, we have no idea of what pressures they may have been under or what their state of mind was.

My sympathy goes to the children and indeed the family as whole involved in this sad affair.

People make comments concerning the ethics of the matter, however until your there you can't say with conviction what you may do in such a situation.

Everyone of us has a price, I've not been in a position where I have had to make a decision based on what my price may be, nor no doubt have any others in this particular thread. If we've been there we can comment with some degree of authority if not we should not judge others and their actions.

R.I.P. and my sincere condolences go to the family who are coming to terms with their grief.

Killing yourself solves nothing.:(

Sure it does. It is the final solution. No more debt. No more pain.

Of course there is also no more laughter, sex, and fun. No more... life.

How do you know? Have you been dead before....it could be paradise, at least we are all eventually going to find out one way or another, except some of the hardened TV posters who no doubt are going to live forever, continually spewing their vitriol from their armchairs to future generations.

You can just picture them, too weak to pick up a glass of Chang, their 20 year old wife spoon feeding them Lao Deng and Viagra, eyes like a goldfish trying to focus on reality and what is going on outside of their bowl, constantly having the sweat mopped from their brows by the fawning 20 year old on 100K a month, despite the 18C air con in every room....life is good!

This topic is about two people who have died. It is not about the afterlife, at least not as some posters are discussing it.

Further inflammatory and off-topic posts will be deleted and the posters will be given a posting holiday.

Indeed, it is about 2 people that have decided to end their lives for whatever reason and that should be respected, I don't want to hear Catholics or whoever spouting on about how it never solved nothing...it solved a lot when they were torturing people back in the Spanish Inquisition, respect their wishes, they chose to die. Our comments really do not matter.

I cannot say I am sad for these people as I do not know them, likely TV posters will fill us all in on the motives , reasons etc....each to their own.

I would however add, that by choosing their deaths they died with dignity.
