Entering Burma Through Tachilek...

Featured Replies

Hi,

a few years ago I entered Burma in Tachilek, went by taxi to Kengtung and then on by plane to Mandalay. A very good experience. Of cours I had a proper Myanmar tourist visa then.

Has anybody done that recently?? I hear the Immigration in Tachilek gives you all sorts of problems now.

Is hat right?

A group of friends and I want to make the same trip early next year.

Two months ago a friend from Tachilek told me non-ASEAN foreigners who do not travel with a tour company from Thailand must hire a government-provided tour guide at the border to go on to Kengtung. I think they said the price was a few thousand baht per day.

If you do make the trip, could you please post the info? It's hard to get up-to-date info on this.
