Iorbit Toolbox - Free

Featured Replies

Hi

Thought I'd share THIS with you. Great program from iOrbit that has over 20 tools for keeping your computer fresh and happy.

Tools include Registry Cleaner, Privacy Sweeper,Uninstaller ,Disk Cleaner, Security Scanner. You can also Optimize your system, perform various repair options and get detailed information about your system.

With this one program won't need a bunch of other programs like an Uninstaller or registry cleaner or even CCleaner this one program covers all.

The program is portable, so you don't even have to install it to run and it's FREE

DD :D

This software may be good, bad or ok, I don't know. No one knows...

Why? This company is using the words "free software" in their homepage, but they obviously do not follow FSF's definition of "free software"...

They are either not aware of the definition, which is remarkable for a software company, or they are trying to market their software under a false definition.

This software is not free, if may be gratis but it is not free... and it is as proprietary as all other non-free software.

That's why we cannot say if it does what we expect it to.

Hi Martin

Don't know exactly what you are trying to say but to me the program is FREE. It cost nothing to download and there is no trial period or time limit to it.

iOrbit is a well known established company offering many good software programs, most of which you have to pay for.

As I understand this Toolbox program is a Beta version and I think they are offering for free to see how it works in the real world, maybe later you'll have to pay for it.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and it does what it sayes on the box.

I'm trying to say that they are using the wrong word in their homepage when they describe their software. click download and it says "free software" which it is not. None of the software there is licensed under a free license.

To use the wrong definition is highly misleading, coming from a well known and established company makes this mistake even more embarrassing.

It is very difficult to get any information about the licenses and I assume a better word would be "freeware" which "covers" a huge variety of licenses completely lacking and common definition. If they had used the word freeware, at least it would be clear that the license is not a free license. That would be more honest.

So... you say that you are able to tell that the program is doing what it says it does...after being a user for a couple of weeks...

I downloaded version 1 a few days ago although I have been using 2.0 Beta for a month;

I used it mainly for uninstalling software; I use other applications for registy, cleaning temp

is there a better uninstaller out there ?

I use and have been using Revo Uninstaller for years. It cleans up crap usually left behind when the program's uninstaller finishes.

I have been using CCleaner for years now, and I am very satisfied with it. But I am going to give a shot at that one since it has a few tools CCleaner does not have.

Does this actually have any noticeable effect?

When my old Windows install was at 50% speed from new, I tried ccleaner. I set it a bit too aggressive so it broke some stuff (which I subsequently was able to fix). It cleaned out an impressive list of items. But speed improvements? Nothing really measurable. Was just as much slower from new as before.

On OS X, this kind of tool is another one to cross off the list. Not needed.

Instead of using the Enhancer with CCleaner I switched to Ninja

I seldom use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall preferring CCleaner to do the job;

the Toolbox does a deep scan including the registry when performing an uninstall
