Major Phuket water shortage starts Monday

PHUKET: -- Residents in parts of Wichit, Kathu and Phuket Town are advised to start storing water over the weekend, as their water supply will be cut off from 9am on Monday through Tuesday afternoon.

The Phuket Provincial Waterworks Authority announced that the scheduled supply disruption is to allow installation of water mains on Wichit Songkram Road, in front of Surakul Stadium.

Water supply to the affected areas is "expected" to resume about 4pm on Tuesday, or "whenever the work is completed".

The badly affected areas are:

Wichit Songkram Road: From the Provincial Waterworks Authority Office near Phuket Country Club in Kathu to Phatthana Road in Phuket Town, including the Darasamuth School Junction (Central Festival Phuket) and Thai Hua School.

Chao Fa West Road: From the Darasamuth School Junction to Kwang Road.

Bypass road: From the Darasamuth School Junction to the Samkong Intersection (Tesco Lotus).

Residents in other parts of Phuket Town can expect to experience lower water pressure than normal while the work is underway.

The PWA says that it apologizes for any inconvenience and asks residents to store up enough water for those two days.
