Do You Want All Members Red/Green Points To Be Displayed On Each Post?

Now on profiles only, change would show on ALL posts

Currently, "reputation" points (reds/greens) are shown ONLY at the profile level. You can only see them if you choose to click on and view individual member's PROFILES. In other words, relatively private.

There has been a suggestion to change all that, to make it so that "reputation" points are shown for each user on each and every post. Apparently, the management here has expressed interest in actually making that change.

But wait a second. What about ASKING the members if we actually WANT that? Isn't that worth at least asking?

So here I am, asking.

Jinghting is back, and with a poll to boot!!

Where have you been? you've been missing for a week, was it becuase I pointed out the high number of daily posts you make? Or were you banned for something?

My lawyers have advised me not to comment, but hello!

I voted yes because I would like that. but if it was that easy to see dont you think some members may be swayed to reply in a different way depending on how many reds or greens that OP has?

I think the entire rep feature is totally childish and open to massive abuse. I consider expanding this so publicly, which I am betting is going to happen, represents a further degradation of the board experience.

Interesting that so far the majority is voting in favor of this change. Following that trend, why not take it further and display on each post member's

credit scores

size of genitalia

net worth of liquid assets, etc.

?????

I wouldn't really term it childish, but it is potentially open to massive abuse. The GOOD thing about the current feature is that you can see the names of those who have added a reputation point. This in itself is good for minimising abuse from those that have had a disagreement with you and just want to add a negative rep point to every point you make.If you ignore someone can they still add rep points?

In general the feature is ok, it draws the line between quality and quantity. Maybe some people don't contribute that often, but when they do, it's worth listening to. However, where the feature should not be allowed to progress is with the publishing of any kind of 'league table'.

We live in a country where respect is almost everything, so why not!

Yes.

I am favoring a total OPT OUT option at the user level for those of us who want to totally not be involved in this stupid game. No points, no power to give or get, permanently. It wouldn't ruin the fun for those who like it as only a minority would choose that.

Will you Please <deleted> with this, im gueesing even the mods dislike you now with your incessant babble! There i was hoping for the best when i hadt seen your posts!

Why should I care about the approval of anyone, including the mods? What's wrong with stating your actual opinion without regard for popularity? That's my ideal, anyway, for the best a forum can be. What's going on here? Isn't FACEBOOK enough for you juvenile conformist approval freaks?

Hmm, crusade to be the first with -1000 ... Wonder how that fits into the above statement. ;)

It's not my fault if you aren't sophisticated enough to glean the MESSAGE behind that effort. Maybe humorlessness is a prerequisite to being a mod.

I voted no, my reasons are as follows.

On a recent survey, probably one of yours Op, something along the lines of; do we want this reputation, red/green thing or not, I recall I voted not bothered, I couldn’t see what harm it could do either way.

So, what’s changed? Well now, I may be slow on the up-take some times, but I’m no shrinking violate, and catching sh#t when posting is always on the cards, no problem, but I think I’ve just seen my first act of bullying/ganging up on TV and the use of the reputation buttons, both red/green to discourage agreeing replies to the OP. 2/3 members are trying to “stick-it” to the OP. The sad thing is it appears to be working; a fair number of, on the fence TV’s want to be seen on the winning side have pitched in and using their vote, gutless tossers! Not really saying anything, just bleating like sheep. I know, I know, nothing new, but now with added venom.

IMHO the reputation vote is being used to bully and intimidate possibly the less robust subscribers who would be happy to post, possibly new and interesting topics. The red/green button will only serve to shrink the pool of TV’s posting topics if the tossers get there way.

You think adding a superficial BIAS to your posts is a good thing? Oy vey, this is hopeless. Bring it on. Back to grade school!

BTW, this entire rep game is an insult to our intelligence. But you know what they say, nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public, in this case, ALL people. This is pure Lowest Common Denominator. It doesn't reward intelligence and real integrity, it rewards pablum milquetoast group think.

as far as I'm concerned I'm still to be convinced this +/- stuff is really useful. I may be wrong, but I think some members may be inclined to become a stand-up comedian overnight. Maybe the "-" is useful, gives you a chance to find out why people don't like what you wrote.

PS in your list of details to display you forgot 'gender' ;)

There is one clear thing that this reputation rubbish is doing quite well...it's exposing all the egotists on the forum. That is, those who want this idiotic & childish thing are looking for 'browny points' to show the world how wonderful they are.

Get rid of this reputation feature now!

To be honest I find it unbelievable that grown men can actually give a toss about this.Do some actually go to bed at night concerned if they've been given a little red or green square in the corner of their screen.

This is what I would call a rhetorical question ;)

You are getting way to worked up about this. It really really doesn't matter does it?

Dear JT,

Clearly you need help with this 'fixation' condition on the red/green thing.

I just spoke with a doctor friend of mine and he strongly prescribes that you turn off your pc for at least 90 days and head outdoors to smell the roses. ;)

I do not subscribe to this reputation rubbish. I do not partake in it, in any way.

I do, however, feel that it will further reduce the already low number of 'thinkers' on the forum.

Not so long ago (before all the upset in Bangkok), this place wasn't too bad. As a result of the Bangkok thing, all manner of lunatics have appeared...most of whom seem to love this moronic reputation feature.

I guess it's simple...if idiocy persists, I'll go elsewhere & this place can be another hangout for the ever increasing number of infantile paralysis sufferers.

This place is becoming the equivalent of 'The Sun' or the 'Sunday Telegraph' as opposed to 'The Age' or 'The Australian' (newspapers). This place was less like a tabloid before the Bangkok debacle.
