I have a laptop which has been plagued since I bought it. I am guessing the problem started before I bought the machine as the activity log contained a lot of date references 3 months before I bought it. I dont know for sure of course but suspect the retailer sold the machine at that time, problems emerged, they took it back applied some patch and then sold it to me. Numerous crashes, apparent overheating, counterfeit software, an unexplained problem that causes multiple odd characters to appear when striking a key once, and finally a permanent crash.

Anyway my question is now that the machine has finally crashed for good, can it be rebuilt locally. I dont have faith in the shops in my area really, I am in the country not city areas. This has been my experience with problems so far. I'm going to buy a new machine when I visit Aus shortly but was hoping to give this one to my son, or should I take it to Aus and get one of my ex work nerd mates to fix it.

I should say that I am only a user not techernogical at all, when living in Aus I had unlimited access to resources at work, and remember that in the earlier days of having PCs on our desks at work, if we got the blue screen of death the IT guys would just replace the PC and take the old one away to "rebuild", thats all I know.

Any sensible recommendations out there.

Re-install your operating system and format the hard drive, then re-install the drivers for the machine.

If you don't know how to do it PM me and we'll go through it together.

2 possibilities : CPU overheating due to a faulty fan or a bad RAM memory module. As you say you've had problems since buying the laptop , I would presume it's not the fan since that would only start to give problems after about 2 years of use.

You don't mention the model of the laptop but most of them have a panel at the back which can be removed to upgrade the RAM. Suggest you try to change the memory module and see if that works out for you.

The blue screen itself gives you some information. It states the cause of the crash, the codes after that gives even more details (to the experts).

Thanks guys so far.

It is American Chinese Electronic Rubbish.

I dont know how to reinstall the operating system and reformat the hard drive, i think I will pursue this option, I would not rule out the fan as the machine has at times been extremely hot, my missus said she thought she smelled it burning although I wasn't there.

There are panels to remove at the back, and as I sit in the internet cafe I do not remember the codes on the bsod except they were different codes to the regular crashes I had been experiencing. Will report back shortly.

My desk top at home will blue screen because of the RAM. The RAM is fine but it seems there is an issue with the contacts on the motherboard. This happens to both my desk top occasionally I don't know why but have started a thread asking the question. Try removing the RAM clean it and reinstall it.

You state you are not technically adept about PC repair even down to installing the OS again. I suggest seeking a local person be it a known friend or a repair shop to do the most basic things. Formatting and re-installing the OS again as well as the basic cleaning of the fan and other minor services that might cure the issues.

Big question? Do you have disks of the OS and other needed drivers and other software? If not this may be an issue.
