Hi everyone

Some of you might remember my last posts a few months ago regarding a now successfull Fiancee visa application for my Thai GF. She has been in the UK for approx. 4 months and we are now applying for an extension of stay and we are filling out the FLR(M) form to be sent next month. We are sending the application approx. 12 days before expiry of the visa.

The form seems easy enough to fill out however I wanted to ask a few questions. Is it a straight forward process when applying for the FLR(M) ? Are there any pitfalls that I need to watch out for ?

I would appreciate any feedback from any members who have some experiences.

Thank you

Hi Clive,

I presume you are now married? In which case you can send the application now. There's no need to wait until the fiancée visa is approaching its end.

There are no hidden rules. You need to show that you are now married and that you can maintain and accommodate your wife without recourse to public funds. In other words, when you send in the application, accompany it with your passport, marriage certificate, your bank statements, your wage slips, evidence of your accommodation and, for good measure, a few piccies of the happy couple. You also need to show that you intend to live together permanently, but having already been issued with a fiancée visa, the very fact that you've subsequently got married goes some way towards establishing this fact.

Cheers,

Scouse.

Hi Scouser

Thanks for reply.

We are getting married on the 20th August 2005, we will have wedding pics to send and I have all my financial documents ready. I contacted the IND and they said it was OK to send the application that close to the expiry, otherwise as you said I would probably send it now.

Showing evidence that we intend to carry on living together, should I incorporate a couple of bills with our joint names ? ( I am sure the marriage certificate would suffice ? )

Thank you

Hi Clive,

If you have bills in joint names, I'd send them with the application: it's all grist to the mill. If you don't already have joint names on bills, then just submit a few letters which your fiancée may have received in her name at your address.

Hi scouser

I will send some letters with her name on with the application FLR(M) as you have advised.

Do you know scouser how long the application ( posted ) takes to process ?

Thank you

How long's a piece of string? I believe they promise to assess straightforward cases within 3-4 weeks but I'll double check on the HO site.

Back in a tick.

Edit:-

Just checked on the website

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en/ho...pplication.html?

It says that they are currently working on applications made in April, so 3 months is the answer. Having said that, I recall apetley posting recently that his wife had her application assessed in 3 weeks.
