World’S First $1Billion Pad

Featured Replies

WELCOME to the first $1billion pad - the new home of India's richest man.

Industrialist Mukesh Ambani, 53, is set to move into the 27-storey palace with wife Nita and three kids in days.

The 570ft Mumbai tower has three helipads, 50-seat cinema, health club and ballroom. Named Antilia after a mythical island, it took seven years to build amid the city's slums.

Guests stay mid-tower - above a tree-lined garden that absorbs sunlight to cool the interior.

The skyscraper has a whopping five football pitches of floor space.

Its 600 staff are housed on two floors, while the bottom six storeys provide parking for 168 cars and an in-house garage.

The top four levels, with sea views, are family quarters.

The pad cost ฃ44million to build but is now worth 15 times that. Ambani, who made his ฃ18billion fortune in oil, retail and biotechnology, even found space to move in a VIP guest - mum Kokilaben

I read about this tower when it was first being built....but,

600 staff????

Ok, 6 floors to park 168 cars indicates the building has a fairly small footprint (not suprising). Less than 30 cars per floor.

2 floors to accomodate 600 staff..... 600 staff in the space it takes to park 60 cars.

Those numbers don't sound realistic, besides my wonder at needing 600 staff.

I have no problem with people spending their money how they want....but it does seem a bit ostentatious to flaunt that sort of luxury amongst a poor society and at the same time crowding your staff into shoe boxes.

Bit of a bugger if you're one of the kids and mum says " Go and tell dad his dinner's on the table "

I'd change the decor.

I'd rent it out and live somewhere else.

No lack of class or style there....and even if the interior decorating was crass or ostentatious, I would still be happy to go fishing or hold a party on that one.

At least he is giving jobs and housing to 600 of the less fortunate.

Although you have to wonder how much he is paying them.

For sure. And that is one ugly looking building. With Indian building standards, I'd be nervous to live there!
