October 23, 201015 yr Anyone know a good restaurant that serves Maine lobster? I've been to Seafood market but it seems like a farang oriented place with such prices (mud crab was close to 2k/kg). A decent sized lobster there costed 6000 baht! So I'm sure there are cheaper restaurants that serve it, around 2000-3000 would be nice, anyone know of any?

October 25, 201015 yr A couple of hints about lobster ... Most "Maine lobster" advertised and sold in restaurants isn't really from Maine. Maine ports simply don't produce enough to provide to the whole world. The fisheries are up and down the northeast US & Canadian coasts in the Grand Banks area. Though the same species, some believe there is a better taste of "Maine rock lobster" versus those from other areas north and south. IMHO, it's not the location but the quality and freshness. There is a night and day difference between fresh lobster and frozen lobster. If you're not eating it fresh, just out of the water, killed just before or as a part of cooking, it doesn't matter where it's from. Frozen lobster pretty much tastes the same the world 'round, IMHO. Lobster tends to be one of the most abused seafoods on the cooks' table because it is so <deleted>' hard to cook just right. Undercooked and it is mushy and potentialy sickening. Overcooked it is chewy, rubbery and flavorless. If you're going to pay the premium for lobster, make sure you know what you're getting and how the chef is preparing it. I'm no great fan of lobster and find it to be overrated and overpriced compared to other seafood. But living on the coast, and eating it freshly steamed off the boat with just a touch of butter, well, there's nothing quite like it.
October 27, 201015 yr I did see it at Ho's Kitchen on Rama 3 (nice Chinese place on the riverside), they also have alaskan king crab, sadly I am allergic to all shell fish so never got a chance to eat it, also only once did I see the Maine Lobster there, on my subsequent visits they did not have it.
