To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked.

The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.”

Since Obama will stay in a hotel that is on sea front, elaborate coastal security arrangements have been made by the US Navy in consonance with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. “There will be US naval ships, along with Indian vessels , patrolling the sea till about 330-km from the shore. This is to negate the possibility of a missile being fired from a distance,” the officer said.

The President will be accompanied by his chefs, not because he would not like to savour Indian cuisine, but to ensure his food is not spiked.

Even after all these years Germany is a dangerous place. Not the Germans this time, but the individuals they allow free reign within their borders.

Speaking of Germans - had a great time last Friday at an Octoberfest party at the Grand Hyatt here in Dubai. Sausages, saurkraut , liter Weissbeiers and plenty of drinking songs. They know how to throw a party!

It's the ol' double standard. When there were tight security measures for Bush, the press focused on the unhappy residents. Today, I'm sure the residents are still unhappy but it's unlikely you'll read many stories about it.

Last I heard on the crash on Aziz, was the pilot pulled a high G turn, blacked out, and lost control. So, UG or whoever may not be alone in believing they may lack some pilot skills, their maintenance personnel also managed to burn one to a crisp sitting in the hangar on the same base. That's why there is a constant flow of western technicians in and out. They try to go it on their own, and after a year or two, and they don't have anything left to fly, they call back the westerners. I haven' talked to any of the F-15 guys in quite awhile, but appears they need help again.

To figure out if Obama is being a spendthrift one would have to figure the size of his economy.

I would expect the leader of a large nation to spend more money than a small nation.

If one is responsible for a larger population and larger expenditures it stands to reason that a trip would cost more money.

I would expect the PM of the UK to spend something more in line with what the governor of California would spend than the President of the United States.

If the mayor of Cedar Rapids Iowa went on a trip I would not expect him to spend as much as the governor of California.

1. It seems a carrier task force of 34 war ships are being sent to patrol the waters off India to protect the family and an unknown sized entourage of their closest friends and employees.

Yes, the terrorists came ashore in small fishing vessels authorized to be in the port. I hardly think it calls for a 34 ship flotilla including at least one nuclear powered aircraft carrier and it's attendant Battle Group.

Some security is justified. A full scale invasion fleet is hardly justifiable security.

In response to your last question. Yes, I would be just as upset with President Palin as with President Obama.

I wonder if you realise that intellect has little to do with leadership abilitiy or decision making ability? IF Obama is such a great intellectual, how to explain his gross incompetence and need to read everything even when speaking to small school children? I can explain it - he's an empty suit.
