European Airlines Say Us Security Goes Overboard

Featured Replies

European air officials accused the United States of imposing useless and overly intrusive travel security measures, calling Wednesday for the Obama administration to reexamine policies ranging from online security checks to X-raying shoes.

British Airways' chairman made the first in a wave of complaints, saying in a speech to airport operators that removing shoes and taking laptops out of bags were "completely redundant" measures demanded by the U.S.

Airport security! A topic we might all actually agree on. Airport security seems to go over the top in many places. I guess too much is better than too little.

Anyway, what's this bit above about the British Airways saying that taking out laptops is a measure demanded by the US? I have had to take out my laptop in many countries over the past few years and I was never flying to the US.

They're right. US security goons are officious as hel_l and just way over the top. I'd line them up with the bankers when we get around to the mass executions.

It is all to create the illusion of safety from the illusion of Terror.

It is nothing more than a show to justify the spending.

Meanwhile uninvited guests can slip past CIA & Secret Service into a white house dinner.

I would add a large line of politicians from various administrations to Lannarebirths firing squad lineup

Nice case of Media Terror spin in full trot today in the USA

UPS plane held on the tarmac in the US due to *suspicious package*

That supposedly was sent from Yemen...Home of Terror & the Al Qaida

A classic bomb it was too.....A package from Yemen with wires sticking out of it!

Of course the first reports state it as a flight from Yemen to Chicago...Even though UPS does not fly from Yemen. :ermm:

Surely they will correct that.....later

Of course they will also hold this plane on the tarmac for many hours after it is determined to be nothing.

Airtime you know...........Important days before the elections here. ;)

Now all the stories will be read about how vulnerable we are. How at anytime bombs can be shipped via air cargo because after all we have not yet allocated the funds to also have TSA check each & every air cargo package.

A classic bomb it was too.....A package from Yemen with wires sticking out of it!

it is a well known fact that the yemeni terrorists are masters of deception!

Edited out. Poor sentence structure.

Three days before a mid-term election that is predicted to cause the Democrats to lose many Congressional seats

Just more Chicago politics at work. :bah:

You do have to wonder eh?

I mean here is a supposed terrorist group that is obviously better than the US military industrial complex for

close to 10 years now. Or at least that appears for our benefit as a reason the US military need to stay. Since they cannot seem to reach a conclusion/victory

Yet they will have us believe that these same masters of deception now will mail a package from Yemen of all places

to Jewish synagogues in the USA.

But wait it gets better.......

Now to top it off they will make it a package that leaks white powder & has wires sticking out of it.

I am guessing if the spinners wanted to pretend the terrorist were any more stupid the spinners could have claimed the package was sent from Tora Bora & addressed to the white house. Yet these are the same terrorist that evade the US Military for near 10 years??

hmmmmmm Who is the dummy?

Then TPTB spin machine will claim ahhhhhh this is a trial run. They are testing the waters...All of this 3 days before election.

I guess the Zobama gang did learn one trick from the Texas village idiot.

yeah.............I think the spin machine better give the sheeple a little more credit.

Evan the densest of them should see through this.... Well maybe all but save one that likes clip art....... No hope for that one.

Now as the US sheeple all cry for more protection from this obvious TERROR & will again be willing to give up even more of the rights their forefathers worked so hard to frame into their Constitution & Bill of Rights....

But before they demand more protection & scanning TSA of any package that fly's to the USA....Let me make one simple observation that

should make that seem trivial.....

If there was a desire to send something to go boom it would not be a tiny package on a UPS plane. It would also never be possible to search/scan every container before it comes into any US port....As this alone is a tiny corner of one port.

Back in 2006 there were 25,000 containers offloaded daily in the US

Terrorism is all just a vast right-wing U.S. conspiracy!

You're almost right, but not quite.

Terrorism does exist, but the US certainly plays it up for their own agendas.

Edited out. Poor sentence structure.

And you had to tell us that?

A toner cartridge! Some white powder!!!! Wires!!!!!!!!!

Because of all the kerfuffle, if the package turns out to be completely innocent and innocuous, we will never hear of it. It will be spun into whatever potential it can, including, as already mentioned, that this was just a dry run to test the water.

Please attempt to expand upon your theory of how the U.S. benefits by playing up terrorism.

In line with the topic of this thread, it seems British authorities can't make up their minds about the need for security.

Britain scrambles for new security steps on Yemen freight

– Fri Oct 29, 4:11 pm ET

LONDON (AFP) – Britain is "urgently considering" new security measures for air cargo from Yemen after a suspect package flown in from the country sparked an international alert, the government said Friday.

Police said they were examining the package after it arrived aboard an "American-registered cargo plane" at East Midlands Airport in England. The plane was en route to Chicago via Philadelphia.

"We are urgently considering what steps need to be put in place regarding security of freight originating from Yemen," Home Secretary Theresa May said in a statement.

"Safety and security of the UK remains my number one priority. We are working closely with our international colleagues and will continue to do so."

The British government suspended direct flights from Yemen in January after a Nigerian "underwear bomber" with links to the Arab country allegedly tried to blow up a US airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day 2009.

May confirmed that the package "originated in Yemen and was addressed to a destination in the US" and was "currently being examined."

"At this stage there is nothing to suggest that any location in the UK was being targeted," she added.

A Home Office source said the plane was believed to have stopped somewhere else before Britain but the location had not been confirmed.

The BBC reported the object was not a bomb although it was "potentially sinister." Several media outlets reported that the package was a doctored ink toner cartridge containing white powder with wires attached to it.

London's Metropolitan Police, which took over responsibility for the operation from local police, said in a statement: "The plane stopped at East Midlands Airport as part of a routine stopover.

"Cargo removed from the plane was examined. Further tests were carried out. Following this a number of items have been sent for additional scientific examination."

Police confirmed that "explosives officers" attended the airport but that the airport "continued to operate as normal during the day."

The package, along with another found in Dubai, sparked an international alert as investigators in the United States swept cargo planes. US President Barack Obama was informed late Thursday of a "potential terrorist threat".

Local police said they had examined the suspicious package at East Midlands Airport in the early hours of Friday morning, before announcing there was no threat mid-morning.

However, they reinstalled security cordons at about 2:00 pm (1300 GMT) but it was later lifted.

That container will get through. It's the ones with toner cartridges and the ones with white powder (wheat flour) that will cause a security closedown of the entire port area.

I knew both of those things, thanks anyway.

Yeah I noticed that too....

Made me wonder why they didnt send it along with the packages they found today direct to the zionist home lands.
