We would like to have a weekend away without our 9½mnth old son. How much should we pay our non-live in nanny to stay with him for the weekend (Friday night to Saturday night) Her monthly wage is 13,500b. Suggestions? If it matters in rates we live in Bangkok.

My recommendation is 70 - 100 baht per hour for every hour that is outside of her normal working period. That assumes that she is a truly trustworthy individual, and will actually be taking care of your child while you are gone and not simply sleeping and ignoring his cries.

The last several people my wife and I have interviewed have all asked for 100 baht per hour, but I think there is room to find someone at the lower end of this range while still keeping your child's best interests at heart. If you have a good relationship with your nanny, she may be amenable to less.

Just wondering, where do you live in Thailand?

The wage of 13,500THB seems a little high to me though.

You could have a registered nurse service for 20,000 or so.

Mkawish, I think you're not living in the same Thailand I am.

I wish we could find a good nanny for 13,500 baht per month. Many that we've talked to are asking for 20k, they don't speak English, and they definitely are not registered nurses.

I am always shocked when I hear people saying they pay 5k per month. Where do they find those people? Good nanny's ain't cheap. We're doing without right now because we can't find anyone. Had to let the last one go because she was useless. We were giving her 10k.

Magee, don't let her go. If you are happy with her, lock her in a closet if you have to in order to keep her there. 13,500 is not too much for good help. I envy you.

Nearly all Thai managers where I work pay their nannies over 10,000 bath per month, a few pay over 15,000 bath. This is not an unusual price range at all for the better off working middle class. That's the Thai managers, the Western managers pay more as they need decent English too. A live-in maid with a bit low salary in Bangkok gets 6,000 bath per month now a days, nannies have much more responsibility and should be paid higher.

I don't need a nanny now but I would expect to pay 10,000 bath per month for a good live-in nanny not speaking any English at all. I totally agree with gregb. If you're happy with your nanny, then hold on to her with all you've got :) 13,500 is not too much for a good nanny that you can trust with the most important thing in your life

Difficult to say price in terms of bath per hour, I can't. You should study the nanny's face and you should be able to see if she's OK or not when you talk to her.

Please help with advise. We have a 1 year old daughter. We are looking for a live out nanny for her, working for 12 hours per day six days per week. How much money do you think we should offer to potential nanny?

We live on Phuket if it matters.

We pay 6000 baht per month in the South which includes cooking and cleaning. I guess not bad, but the Thai people where my wife works say we pay to much as they pay about 4000. My wife is happy with her so it's OK.

As for extra work we would average her daily wage which is 300 baht and tack on double if the need arised. So I guess for special services on nights or weekends it would cost us double.
