Candidate Files Criminal Complaint Over Firm Handshake

Featured Replies

A firm handshake is usually seen as a good thing in business and even in politics.

Not so much in South Florida. A candidate for the Broward County School Board wants the cops to lock up her opponent after what she claims was akin to battery after a recent debate.

Jaemi Levine filed a complaint with the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming David Thomas squeezed her hand so hard during a post-debate handshake Tuesday that it now hurts.

-------------

So which candidate do you think will lose the most votes over this? The brute or the whiner?

The poster who thinks that provincial US politics is a suitable subject for Bedlam at Thaivisa?

Maybe she has the "liberal gene", which is an existing thread topic.

Sigh.

If you want to think of this as a thread about US politics, that's up to you. You are free to stop reading it. You don't seem to complain when something is posted about a crazy lawsuit in the US, or how Brits like to name their kids.

However, I didn't post this so that we can discuss Miami (hardly provincial by any means) politics. Here we get one politician making a criminal complaint about receiving a strong handshake. Even if it were a big, mean man, hurting a woman's hand, do you thiink it's a reason to get the police involved? Ridiculous.

I imagine that it's mostly the hawks that file frivolous lawsuits.

Perhaps not in this case? Not knowing who's who in American politics, but guessing from your comment that she's a lefty, I can only say that he must be an agressive warmongering male with deep-seated woman-dominance aspirations, a possible wife beater, and a bully rightist.

Hhe probably pulled the wings off flies as a child, and burnt ants with a magnifying glass.

But to answer your question, I reckon it will lose her some votes, unless she wins her case, because, to be fair, it IS quite possible to deliberately and significantly hurt someone with a hand-crusher shake.

Now that post made me laugh out loud. You are a treat, Harry. :cheesy:

I'm sincerely glad to have brightened your day chucky.

I didn't even notice the political parties of the two involved. But I did natually assume that the whiner was a Democrat and the one using too much force was a Republican.

Isn't it a little late to get all selective about innocuous subjects that should be verboten in Outside the Box.

I agree with the sentiment of your post but, even so, there's a difference between discussing US politics that could affect all of us and the litigious nature of candidates for the 'Broward County School Board'. And yes, the election of someone to a county school board is provincial - about as provincial as it gets.

I didn't even notice it was for a school board either.

Talking about provincial - if you're from NYC, with a few exceptions, just about every place else on the planet is "provincial".

But this topic still has some value to you because you keep coming back. :)

That's because I'm naturally contrary
