Now I know we all lead different lives and our commitments to family, work, health & other social activities take precedence over our participation in Bedlam, but of late I've noticed :-

What used to be a vibrant & wacky forum is perhaps becoming a little stale.

Does anyone one have similar feelings and if so what are the causes and possible remedies for this particular malady.

I still visit every day, but look at only one or two threads, then disappear again. Also check out 'OTB', but nothing much happening there either.

I only check Bedlam out while I'm at work now, seldom turn on my home computer.

Definitely a lack of topics and I see very little in my world that is worth contributing. Don't like to start threads that won't give some interesting reponses.

And that's at 5.30am... sub 20*C outside, with a bit of a hangover (rare for me these days) waiting for the kettle to boil, 'cos I have to have coffee before I shower, and then off to Korat.

Busy day, still check in here tho' ..... apart from all the threads with embedded youtubes, as that just fills up my computer memory and I have to restart the thing... I just mark those as read without reading them now.

If something interesting happens that isn't Thai related, I'll post it, but it has been uneventful in Thad World recently .... thank god.

I'll be honest, there's a few people here that set my teeth on edge.

It's nothing to do with what they say it's how they say it.

Maybe my forum days are just coming to a close, I haven't posted in a one time favourite since the Red Shirt troubles. (No, that's not a coincidence).

My occasional contributions to ThaiVisa are now restricted to the Chiang Rai forum and they tend be non-controversial with an occasional lapse into curmudgeonliness.

Maybe it's me, old age breeds intolerance they say.

Well, maybe we could disable the Youtube embedding feature. Conversely, maybe the mods could warn someone for just posting the music they listen to when they're drunk in otherwise interesting threads like "YouTube Sightings" and "Found on the Web".

There are time and place for You Tube clips, NOT MUSIC incessently.

I read the news, pop into general.

At least people are tasking the time to reply, even old Sceads made an appearance.

What a couple of folk have mentioned here, and in other threads, is that You Tube seems to have infiltrated too many threads now, especially since the recent format change and the easier operation to embed.

Perhaps as a suggestion we either revert back to the old system of copying and pasting a link or making a note in the topic heading that this is a "You Tube Free Thread"

Would this make it more Bedlamite friendly. These are only suggestions and I'm not advocating change just for change sake, just trying to open up a bit of dialogue so that everyone gets to throw in their 2 Bob's worth. (I'm still in pre-decimalisation currency thought mode)

I personally don't mind the You Tube clips and find that they often help to illustrate a point as your clip does to this thread. But I don't have a problem with slow internet a thus a tiresome page-load time as some inmates have.

This thread is only meant as an open forum in true Bedlam fashion and was looking to bring back a little of the vitality that this place seemed to have a couple of years ago.

But perhaps my memory deceives me, I am after all a S.O.A.P ( Sensational Old Age Person)

As I mostly open Bedlam at work, few minutes break between arguments, I don't have sound on, thus ignore the U-Tube thingys. I just wanna read - then post a sarky reply.

My day has been great. I packed up 5 boxes of books, swept the floors and later shall mop them. Opened the windows - nice sunny day - to get the old smoke and vodka fumes out.

Later, shall go to shops and do the lottery. Then shall maybe meet a friend for a drink or two on a terrace (before the real Winter comes). Then bath, eat, NCIS on telly. Then beddyboes with Jimmy the cat. Up tomorrow at 6.30 to let cat out. Up again at 6.38 to let cat in. Coffee. read papers, watch jeremy Kyle.

Start again - except tomorrow is - mopping parquet in living room.

And I have a load of old plugs, modems and extension cords to sort out and chuck accordingly.

What do people do with old videos and vinyls these days?

There are a handful of you tube threads, all self contained so I am really confused about why it is so hard to just not open them?

And at the last look, without posting, the u toob threads seem to be still up and running.

The rise of the Tube on here mirrors the fernominominom of bloody " Powerpoint".

In days of yore people who knew what they were on about, gave briefings or held informative meetings to get their points across. Now they darken the room, show lovely graphics prepared by someone else, read from prepared scripts to a now sleeping audience and then put the lights on and leave.

All about dumbing down really.....init.

Videos - in a bag in the bin.

Vinyls - i've been told there is a wee shop three bustops away who buy them off me. And I've got Thriller and Stairway to Heaven and a few odd 80's music albums (wonder why)!! Which may interest them. Or else they just take them in bulk, Donny Osmond bye bye puppy love..

They told a friend of mine to take down a sample.

The only problem is that they have be used and abused and scratched.

And sort of jump - especially Dire Straits...

Anyway, shall let you know how it went getting rid of the records. I have some original Beatles singles as well... Those i may keep.

It's sad to get rid of them, but they have been in a box for so long, and I have replaced them with cd's.

I had a lot of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and many others. Did high-definition tape copies (as they were in the early nineties) and gae the originals to my daughter.

Made CDs from the tapes at the end of the nineties, but quality was a bit off. Made copies onto an external hard-disk a couple of years ago, quality not quite right, but what could I do?

Checked with my daughter (now forty - ha ha ha!!) and it seems my grandchildren buggered up the vinyls. So I'm stuck with my digital stuff.

Have external hard disks containing music, videos/movies and photos, plus work back-up. Best way I know to carry this stuff around.

Have to fly back to Bunglerdesh next week - will take music with me. Luckily I am only thee for an over-nighter, so I'll take a few sandwiches, thus avoiding the Delhi-belly (eastern derivative strain) that usually crops up after those visits.

Totally agree with the first statement.

In the second statement the threads referred to have been in Bedlam for some time and are obviously not a factor in the current "health" problems. There are similar threads in other forums featuring men. Most notably in the specific, for Ladies forum. Nobody seems to have problems about that.

While you are correct in saying there are just a handful of specific utube threads, a vast majority of the threads on the front page have videos embedded in them. Including in this relatively serious thread about Bedlams problems. It seems only the happy birthday threads are exempt.

This is the problem some people with slow connections have. Maybe instead of always attacking posters who express problems, a way could be found to limit embeding.

(Incidently I'm not talking about myself here, I have a reasonable connection, I do a bit of embeding myself and enjoy much of the music posted despite being to old to understand the stuff that youngsters like Patsy posts.
