If you apply in Oslo it would take approx 2 working days.

If you are in Asia already, go to Penang and you will get it within 2 days as well. Search this forum for "Penang".

I did the process a number of years ago so there may be a few things that I left out. If my memory serves me correct you will need to take the following steps:

1. You will need to get a non-immgrant visa. They will not process until you have this visa.

Check with the embassy in Oslo if you can do this there. It shouldn't be a problem. If in Thailand go to Penang. Bring supporting documents.

2. You will need to get the marriage document translated and certified by your embassy if married outside of Thailand.

3. You will need supporting documents from your wife (i.e. house registration books, etc.) The Thai immigration will give you a complete check list what you need to bring.

4. You will need to open a bank account in YOUR name and wire funds from outside Thailand. I don't know the amount but I believe 200,000 -250,000 baht was sufficient when I did this. IMPORTANT! Do not deposit cash into your bank account or withdrawl cash from your ATM. They need proof that funds came from outside Thailand. Your bank will then issue a document to give to immigration.

Note: YOU DO NOT NEED A LAWYER OR AGENCY TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS. Do it on your own. The office at immigration is located on the first floor and is all the way in the back.

5. Immigration will process the information and give you a temporary visa to stay in Thailand. If you are childless, the file is sent to Thai immigration police for review. They may or may not come to do a home inspection. They never came to my home.

6. If all paperwork was submitted and all departments have checked off your file then you will be issued a 1 year marriage to a Thai visa. This does not give you permission to work in the Kingdom. The work permit is a whole other ball game.

Good luck.

Run on down to the embassy or immigration and get the packet. It contains everything you need to complete the process. Above is a rough sketch and is by no means a complete list of steps.

What Monitorlizard gives is the full requirements for extension of a non immigrant visa on basis of support. For the basic multi entry visa George gave the short answer and he seems to have marriage certificate/id card at hand so assume he is here in Thailand and that Penang would be the best place for him to visit. In one morning and back the next afternoon if workdays.
