Bank Records In Thailand

Featured Replies

For Visa requirements... If your Thai gf/bf needs to produce 6 months of Bank Statements, be prepared fror a wait of at least a week.

I'm told that Thai banks don't mail Statements to their customers... "not safe"... and many Thai's don't have a checking account, only a Savings Account with a Pass-Book. However, many Thai's don't bother to update the Pass-Book either.

So, when they need a 6-month Statement History

1. They HAVE to go back to the Branch where they opened the Account - min person... a local Branch will not do.

2. There is a 100baht fee and printing the statements takes about a week... and you HAVE to go back and pick them up. They will not mail them.

This is what just happened with Thai Farmers Bank.. a BIG modern bank with many branches in BKK.

If you have a statement account I believe the statement will be mailed. But most accounts are passbook savings type which have no statement. A passbook can be updated at any time and most banks have automatic machines to do the job. Most Thai do not have checking accounts is true. I suspect the special statement is printed at Hqs rather than the branch so transit time is involved unless you visit Hqs.

I am in the process of getting my Thai wife's visa at the moment. But I can also confirm that this is the process it took us about a week and a 200 baht charge. And this is just for a print out, I also payed extra to have a writen letter from the bank stating the wifes account and the current funds, translated into english. This was presented a lot better and more proffesional looking. Basically what ChrisP has just said.............
