Chiang Mai Hotels For Jungle Trekking / Rock Climbing?

Featured Replies

Am after digs located right at the jungle so one can nip into the thicket for a jaunt any time of day/night without the need for transport, guides. Don't need anything flash, such as chocolates on the pillow etc; in fact, a simple cabin would do. Stopped up on the Samoeng Loop a while back (one of the known resorts) and although okay, was all a bit commercialised and no real trails. Have done Chiang Dao, Chae Son, Doi Inthanon, but somewhere closer to home is required. Heard there's a place out on the Chiang Rai 118. Anyone...

Trekker's Lodge

(H118 KM.63 South-east turn 9 km.)

The road passes a Lahu village and goes on to other villages (Lahu, Yao, Karen) up the valley. After nine kilometers Trecker's Lodge (60-200 Baht.) offers huts in a pleasant hill-side setting and provides a good base for further exploration.

from a google search.

hotels / cabins / digs ? .....luxury !

depending how wild you want to go, take your tent & pitch at Ob Khan gorge (or if you're map/gps savy, fit & prepared - carry it with you for an adventurous overnighter to Samoeng), then roughly follow the river upstream a few dozen km's or as far as you can...

its tough going but worth it as there's some nice forest with plenty of flora & fauna up there the further you go, particularly on off trails to the left side of the river.

this one aint in the guidebooks... ;)

Sound good chaps. I'll have the family with me so camping out and any tough, in-situ hiking would be a no no. The idea would be to be positioned right by, or in, the jungle from where I could head out on my own. Being near a river/gorge would defo be a plus. I like Ob Khan although there's no digs there yet.

Noticed this place when looking for Trekker's Lodge: Hmong Hilltribe Lodge out near Mae Rim, but all a bit flashy.

Something like Chiang Dao Nest 2 right at the mountain would be more appropriate.

anon': Could sift through Google, although the idea is to get it all in one place from you good folks in-the-know without all the effort. ;) I shall revisit and furnish the thread with a list if it doesn't come up with one.

I did a search on google because your post reminded me that I should check out this area myself.

I live in Doi Saket and I keep meaning to get out and do a bit of trekking off the 118.

There's a big resort place in the shape of a windmill around 30km outside Doi Saket but I'm not sure of the trekking opportunities around it.
