Changing Thai Coins For Thai Notes

Hi All,

For some time ive been throwing my coins in to a large empty 5 ltr wine bottle and after almost a year its full to the top, so I have just counted it and there is in excess of 10,000thb. I have just been and asked at our local SC bank if I can change it or add it in to my account and was told only 2,000thb and they charge 2thb for every 100thb to count it. I was wondering if there is anywhere that takes it all in one go, im not bothered about the charge for counting but I would like to change it all together rather than keep going down every day with a small amount. Cheers in advance. TM

I got mugged for change in a 7-11 the other day. The girl at the counter spotted my huge collection of satangs in my coin purse, took it off me, emptied it onto the desk and spent several minutes counting out 60THB worth and gave me back the remainder and three 20B notes. Hardly on your scale, but some places do want change.

Having said that, during the red shirt demo's in Ratchprasong I paused on the bridge over the khlong to change a camera lens and was cornered by a street beggar with hand outstretched. With nowhere to go I dumped all the coins from my pocket into his hand. He looked at me, carefully sorted out the half-dozen 25 and 50 satang coins and gave them back to me blink.gif (That's just in case you were considering dispersing your collection to the needy.)

Thanks for that lol, but id rather take my 10,000thb down here. I supose I could always start paying my bar bills with it also :D

Rather than help the needy, you'd rather spend it on the demon drink? The path to redemption is arduous but the rewards are manifold. Think again. I'll pray that you make the right choice.

Give it to those Military police soliciting donation people that issue receipts with no carbon copy.

I mean just the satangs.

Meanwhile 7 eleven will gladly take it off you. Or Family Mart.

Or keep it and use it to pay your traffic tickets at your nearest sonoh.

I keep all 1 and 2B coins and use them to pay my water bill at my local 7/11 each month. Count them out into 100B bags and the cashier (who recognises me) no longer bothers to check.

I'm not rich enough to forget about the 5 and 10B coins. sad.gif

I have for years taken my change jar to Rimping Mee Chok. They are happy to have it. They count it while I shop and hand me the money on the way out with a big smile.

I often have to cash up small change: Makro will usually take the satangs if bagged up in 10B lots. sometimes they'll take one baht coins as well. The main SCB branch on Thapae Rd will sometimes take your 5B and 10B without charging. If you really get stuck, I'll change up 2,000b of 10's and 2,000 in 5's for you if you give me a day or two's notice and a few of the other larger pubs will probably do the same. That should solve most of your shrapnel problems!!!

Thanks for that Pedr, I'll try the bank you mentioned and also I need a few things from Makro. If I get stuck I'll PM you and arrange a day to drop off the rest. Cheers
