Zircon Ups

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Hope someone can help me.

I have a Zircon LCD-1200VA UPS unit, I know not the best and will now always go for APC, but I have the Zircon and may as well continue to use it.

During the evening / night the unit is switching between battery and mains and the clicking is pretty annoying. This is obviously due to my mains supply operating at the high end as everyone in the area turns stuff off. I understand you can can change the sensitivity setting of the unit to widen the input range but cannot find the manual that came with the unit. The Zircon website doesn't have any downloads or help for this model.

Thanks in advance,

Martin.

Looking at the web site I see the unit has a stabiliser.

What you hear is the stabiliser adjusting to compensate for varying input voltage, rather than switching

between mains and battery. It may be possible to adjust the time delay before the unit switches each time

but this will be inside the box.

Not something you should attempt, unless you are really sure what you are doing.

There is leathal mains voltage inside. :bah:

A couple of solutions.

  1. Move the UPS to somewhere you can't hear it doing its job :) (my 4kVA unit has fans like a Trent 900, it lives on the balcony).
  2. Get yourself a voltage regulator of the ferroresonant type, these don't have relays and thus don't click whilst regulating the voltage, feed your UPS from the new regulator.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
