Honda CRV

1990's and up

550,000 or less

More helpful to know what age and price range you're seeking? Maybe even if you have a specific model in mind?

I wasn't inquiring about a specific vehicle but brand, though I see now I did mention model, but I meant brand by that... Going to be hard to recommend a used car dealer that has CRV's in stock on a regular basis let alone in a specific price range?..

There are several CR-V's in my price range listed on thaivisa.com. My concern is the reliability and reputability of the dealerships they are sold from. I don't want to deal with dodgy paint cover ups, tampered mileage, problematic paperwork, etc. Also would help to have a salesperson who speaks English.

Do any of Honda dealerships have a 'used car' section or company attached to them? We purchased our last car in Malaysia this way.

Many thanks.

Toyota and Chevrolet are the only brands in Thailand with a 'factory approved' used car sheme/dealerships, so far.

Whenever you buy from used car lots, you have to bear in mind how they came to have the vehicle in-stock: in the vast majority of cases the vehicle was purchased by them at auction, and in rarer cases they were the trade-in agent or the vehicle came to them from a desperate seller. Their knowledge of the vehicle's history is probably not going to be anything much more than: "they ran out of money and the finance company repossessed it", or "they traded it on model x", or "they were totally broke and had a fire sale". OK maybe in rare cases "it was a farang who was leaving the country" ;)

Margins are usually tight, and most cars will have superficial damage after being on Thai roads and in Thai carparks, so quick/cheap touch-ups are always required in order to present the vehicle well. Tampering with speedos is reportedly commonplace - if you're buying an aged car, if the current dealer didn't do it, any dealer that had the car beforehand may well have. The only good news is that if buying from a dealer, you probably won't have any problems with the paperwork - that's well sorted in Thailand.

Note that there are two popular ways to protect yourself when buying used. First is a professional car check-up and report (e.g. www.testcar.com), and second is a used car warranty. With these two in place, you can almost eliminate who you buy from as being a factor, as you won't have to rely on their honesty or after sales service.

Of course, the best way to buy used is to buy from someone who knows someone you know, where the history of the car is known for a fact, and the price will likely be cheaper as a private sale ;)

For the money you would be looking at a Mk 2 CRV, model ran late 2001 - 2006, for 550,000 baht plenty of 2002/3 models about.

As MoonRiverOasis says many have no idea of the history.... I have found that many will tell you and let you look at the 'green book' well cared for cars of this age, Just one person mostly have owned the car from new, there are many 1 owner cars out there.

1. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=19720&nSID=3

2. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=17844&nSID=2

3. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=25816&nSID=3

or if u want the crv, Toyota sure does sell the CRV too:

1. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=25061&nSID=3

2. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=24010&nSID=3

3. http://www.toyotasure.com/wanttobuy/wanttobuy_detail.aspx?nID=24247&nSID=3

hope this does help, contact the toyota sure, I m quite sure they have English speakers. as for me, i do not recommend buying a 2nd hand car, I totally agree with what MRO says and it is too hard to be sure of the condition of the machine.

Toyota sure does provide a short term warranty, I think it is 1 year with 20,000 km. I m not sure. it's the best I know of.

good luck.
