Warren Buffet'S Silly Comment On Rich Paying Taxes

Featured Replies

http://www.bloomberg...e-in-taxes.html

"If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further," Buffett said in an interview with ABC's "This Week With Christiane Amanpour" that is scheduled to air on Nov. 28. "But I think that people at the high end -- people like myself -- should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it."

Rich people like him? Like Warren Buffett, the 2nd richest man in the country with $45 billion, nearly $20 billion more than #3 (Larry Ellison, $27B)? I like Warren but that was a pretty silly statement.

He's almost dead and if he had to pay 90% in taxes on his earnings each year he would still be worth $45 billion. I wonder what a young Warren Buffett would have thought about paying higher taxes? BTW - I believe he has taken advantages of all the loop holes in the past to avoid paying taxes. I read where he paid a lower rate than his secretary. He's basically a hypocrite.

His hypocrissy is a different matter to his wisdom, assuming he is speaking out for the betterment of the domestic or global economy.

I suspect that anyone who considers his statement to be silly is earning way too much, and could afford to be taxed more. ;)

That being so, you're buying the beers if I ever meet you in person.

The SILLY part is that he says people like himself should be paying more taxes, when in the USA there is only one other person that has as much money as he does - Bill Gates.

Approx number of income tax returns submitted in the USA: 126,000,000

Number of those people with wealth well over $28 Billion : 2 (Gates & Buffett)

Yeah.....and so? Are you suggesting that Buffett is out to get Gates?

Buffett is "out to get Gates"? What are you talking about?

Since you believe that people who earn more should be punished, how high a percentage do you believe is fair? 90%, 95%, 98%?

My first point about Buffett's statement being silly is because he used the phrase "people like me" when in a contry of 310 million, there is only one other person close to being like him income-wise since the subject is paying taxes which is based on income.

The second point I tried to make later is that if you are ALREADY worth $45 billion, why not take a high tax rate on your yearly income? Even 100% would mean at the end of the year, you'll still be worth more than $45 billon if investments, etc remain stable.

I understand what you meant but, I dont think you understood what Buffet meant.

You are taking his words far too literal...of course he meant rich folks not just folks exactly equal to him over xxBillion

Not that I agree with the increase taxation route....of course I dont. I think instead reduce the reason for the taxation.

Sadly we are in Q2 with no end in sight & funding two wars/policing actions? it will have one of two conclusions.

Raise tax or default of the dollar

Lastly it is true as you suggest Buffet does not need income any further & afaik he has donated pretty much all of his wealth to foundations...the Gates foundation included as the biggest chunk.....He probably gets a big tax break for that :D
