Thailand Uncovered...

Thailand will never do anything about the corruption and preying on tourists. If anything is to be done, it has to be done BEFORE tourists arrive in LOS. At travel agencies, airports, on the plane - but that is unlikely to happen because those businesses also profit from tourists so why scare them away?

Personally, when it comes to child pornography, I do not have the defeatist attitude of koheesti (ie, that that's the reality of business, so we have to live with it).

As with the anti-terrorism drives in the US, and the anti human- trafficing drives globally, that promote speaking up and not turning a blind eye, I would not be passe about it, and I would do my bit if the opportunity arose.

As for scammers....hmmm....I don't condone, but it is survival of the fittest after all. If the scammer gets away with it, then he just ripped off a loser.

I disagree. This isn't someone being sold the Brooklyn Bridge and falling for it. These are tourists on holiday, at a major holiday destination, out on the beach in public in front of everyone. They aren't losers for not expecting a "jet ski mafia" of ripping them off.

eventually most ppl will know what these scammers are doing. When travelling to Thailand for the first time in 2003, we were aware that scammers operate around the Palace, and temples in BKK. Offering low taxi rides and special gems that could be onsold for 10-20 times more back home.. we just avoided it. Not really that shocking tbh. Someday, holidaymakers will just go elsewhere and they can stew in their own juice

as for the kiddie porn, the vendors get away with it as the BIB are in on it. It wont go away till someone grows balls to clean up the whole mess. But as money flows to the top, it is unlikely to happen.

Harcourt, not sure if you want to get involved between the BIB and their teamoney

Where did I ever say that??

y but you were thinking it :blink:

it seems too easy to just say corruption but at the end of the day that is where most of thailands problems come from, of course not everyone sees problems with thailand so i'll add imho ;)
