Hm The King'S Birthday Celebrations

Featured Replies

Anyone have any idea of what activities are planned in Cm for the King's Birthday?

Haven't been in town this time of year before, so is it worth stocking up on provisions in the event that restaurants (eg UN Irish Pub) and foodstalls won't be open?

Interesting as everything has been open for the past 3 years (bars).

I think you can open as a restaurant, but not serve alcohol, but I'm not sure.

I guess the UN Irish Pub figures just shut, they're busy enough at other times, so can afford to.

I am confused now.

I mean on this question. Other part's a given..

The economy has stunk so bad over the pass two years for tourism that the authorities have not enforced the ban of selling alcohol on certain holidays aka December 5. I suspect that this will be the third year that establishment of all kinds will be selling Chang.

As for celebrations, there's typically not a whole lot going on, as opposed to Bangkok.

But wouldn't be concerned about bars though; this is still a celebration, not a religious holiday.

I caught sight of a sign relating to Royal Flora on the canal road near the Amari but was not able get more info.

Is there a flower show up there for the King's birthday celebrations?

There is normally a show and celebration at Tha Phae Gate along with a fireworks display.

Thapae Gate is the place to head for to celebrate His Majesty's birthday.

As far as restaurants go, most will be open - we at the Olde Bell will certainly be open as we want to celebrate the King's Birthday -and of course Fathers Day which is the same day, by raising a glass! We expect to be able to serve alcoholic beverages as per usual, but as is always the case with these special days, we wont know until the last minute how local officials will view the sale of booze.

Shops will be open as normal, and banks and government offices will probably be closed on the Monday.
