My friend asked me a question about his work permit and visa.

His visa is up, obviously when his contract finishes, and work permit.

How is he supposed to work the last day, then get out the country?

Does he have to leave the country?

If your friend had an extended entry permit, based on employment, then when he turns his work permit in, he is supposed to report to Immigrationwithin seven days - they will then cancel his extended entry permit - and give him a new stamp - probably allowing him to stay on one more week.

If your friend had only a regular 90 day entry permit, then turning in his work permit has no impact on that entry permit - he can stay until the entry permit's natural expiration date.

In most cases, the expiration date of the work permit is tied to the expiration date of an entry permit (or sometimes, to expiration of an employment contract) - but you did not provide enough information to be certain about this particular case.

Cheers!

Thanks for that Steve.

He is on an extended visa - non-imm B if that is what you mean.

So I guess if he is stopped by the police before he can get to the immigration, he will not be thrown in jail for 1 or 2 days overstay?
