Volunteering In Pattaya

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any recommendations for someone looking to volunteer on a part-time, long-term basis in Pattaya? I'm finding there is little to do besides hanging out at walking street in my off-hours of work...and would like to do something that benefits the less fortunate Thai's living in pattaya.

I know the Pattaya Orphanage run by the Fr. Ray foundation is popular...but what are my other choices?

Matt

A guy I used to work with was part of a group set up to help foreign prisoners in the Pattaya area.

This involved visiting Pattaya jail taking in water, fruit and other types of food and generally offering what help they can to those incarcerated there.

He told me that the type of people they generally find in such a place are there for their stupidity (visa offences etc.) rather than some of the more henious crimes.

This is a formal voluntary organisation and if you were interested in joining it The desk sergeant at Pattaya Police Station ycould probably give you their contact details.

Another source of info about such matters may be the Pattaya Ex-Pats club.

There are probably a few people there that do volunteer work, or know where to find that kind of info.

Remember that Thailand considers some (all ?) forms of volunteer work, to be work, even if you are not getting paid for it. That means you may require a work permit to do volunteer work.

Check it out first, lest ye be nabbed by the boys in tight brown.
