Hi all

We're going to Thailand in October and then I want to prepare all the papers for extension of non-immigrant type O (marry to a Thai).

It's about the marriage certificate , we're already married in Belgium but I want to know if we also can marry again at the Amphur in Bangkok and get the Thai marriage certificate. So it would be easier (I think) to show the Thai marriage certicate when apply for visa extension.

Thanks in advance

Just go to the BKK Amphur office and say you are married. Sign the form and you will given two marriage certificates. Had to show a letter from my home embassy, but would have thought your Belgium marriage certificate translated into Thai would have the same effect. If not, get at a letter from your BKK Embassy. No vows or questions, just sign here and here.

Did this in 2002, to help get a UK visa for my wife, although within six months we were living back in Los, me with a year O visa obtained in the UK, which I have extended three times to date.

A very quick service at the Amphur, and then you are legally married in Thailand and most other places in the world.

You need 400,000 THB in a Thai bank or equivalent income proved to make the extension, unless you are happy to do visa runs every 90 days

Saying this, you should be able to get a year Non immigrant O visa from your local Thai embassy in Belgium before you come out, on the basis of marrying a Thai national, and then just extend it in Thailand.

A friend also did the same thing, but when the shit hit the fan, got divorced at the Pattaya Amphur within 15 minutes, I think for about 50 baht, and an agreed small financial settlement. Then they were both given another form each to confirm this. Not of course that you really want to hear about this. :o

Good luck for the future.

Cheers,

Mike.

Mike , Thank you so much for your quick answer.

Can I ask one more thing?

The date of marry in Thai Marriage Certificate is that the date that you're married in UK or the date that you signed in Thailand (Amphur) ??

Thanks again

Hi Avantgarde,

I would think the certificates would be dated on the day that you attend the Amphur.

…But it might be worth asking if they could backdate them to your original marriage certificate date, for a little extra baht if that’s what you need.

Cheers,

Mike.
