one  time  i  had an arguement with a US  guy that where is  the birthplace of the Pizza , i told him naples and  he  told me.. no it was from USA  .. :D

(and finally i win but he  still insist  and he said , ok..pizza  has origin in italy ....but modern pizza that we all eat  come from  american ..and yummier)

Bambi

Bambi I think this story sounds soOoOooOoo familiar - you copied mine huh !!!! :D

Anyhow, in addition of that story, it started when my american friend and I were going to Italian restaurant and I told him I would have that puffed pizza Calzone. He said it must be pronounced as Cal-zone not Cal-zo-ne as I just said. I told him I was sure it was Cal-zo-ne as once an Italian chef pronouned that word to me - and since it was not an English word so I believed what the Italian guy said was right. My friend then told me "It must be called as Cal-zone because pizza is AMERICAN food and so the word is English! " OMG :D And so the story goes :D:D

So please, if anyone is Italian here, please confirm to me if it is Cal-zo-ne so that I can go back to the fight :D

It is okay Jockstar - no bad feeling!

Ok, I am Italian and I will tell you. Originally, it is pronounced how you said it, "Cal-zone-ee". The way your friend said it, "Cal-zone" is the way it is widely used in America but ultimately, incorrect. :D

Go back and re-read my other post in this thread. Pizza was invented in Greece actually and not Italy nor America.

The history of pizza can be traced back to the greek colonies of Magna Graecia (southern Italy).
