Best Isaan Restaurants In Bangkok?

After just putting down Vientianne House I forgot to mention that Tee Sut Issan Inter (The Best Isaan/International) is pretty good, both the falang food and isaan food.

BTW, Vientianne House and Baan Laos are two separate establishments although very close together.

I like the Vientiane - whenever friends or family visit from Oz I try and take them there. Last time I went about 4 months ago (live in the country now) and the floorshow was better than before - dancers, boxers and band.

(tho' if you need wine bring your own  - chilled, my mum ordered a bottle of reasonable white wine but it came out at room temperature and in went the ice blocks.)

Yes, and if you want to drink your own wine pay 200 thb for the corkage, in a place where the food is already expensive for what it is.

The best quality/price restaurant is for me the one soi ekkamai where Andrew Biggs used to eat. (SABAI JAI KAI YAN)

No charge for corkage, friendly staff (who even know how to serve wine!), indoor AND outdoor, fresh seafood,etc...

Dishes also half of the price of Ventiane kitchen, which is only a tourist trap... (still in my opinion...)

The best and most authentic Isaan food is the stuff on the street.

However, if you want to push the boat out & dine Isaan in style then I would suggest Lemongrass Restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 24 ( I think it's 24). Laos, Isaan & Northern specialities.

I absolutely adore their yam pla meuk -shredded catfish & mango salad &

a great variety of spicy Isaan susages too!

Yeah, Lemongrass is excellent - although those seeking an Isaan restaurant should probably be aware that it's not a specialist Isaan restaurant, just a very good Thai restaurant that covers all varieties of Thai food.

There's a good open restaurant on Langsuan Soi 7. If you're willing to pay Western prices, Sarah Jane's on the ground floor of Sindhorn building on Withayu is great.

Does anyone know the place at Chatuchak, when you walk outta the Metro and take a right down the stairs? It's next to an orange juice stall, good Somtam and the Tom Yam is to die for.

I'm up there quite a lot (Chatuchak) and would love to have some Isaan food to satisfy the post-shopping hunger - sounds good, thanks!

I'll add my endorsement of Tee Sud Isaan Inter to the rest - good food, reasonable prices, Doug the owner is a character.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Yum Sap, a franchise operation that has restaurants in most of the big shopping centers like MBK and even in some Tesco Lotus centers. They have some of the spiciest, tastiest Isaan-style fare I've ever tasted outside of Isaan, but sorry - no bugs.

Has Tee Sud Isaan Inter now closed?? or changed name/hands??

Can someone please tell me what they think the best/most authentic Isaan restaurant in Bangkok is? I am wary of eating from the street vendors, which many people say are the best. Thanks if you can help,

Kurt

Have you tried Issan House?? It's down the sub-soi almost opposite The Woraburi Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 4. Well worth the venture.

There is an isarn outdoor restaurant on Naratiwat near soi 24, near the Oakwood apts., but it's on Naratiwat.

Excellent food and very cheap.
