Schooling In Thailand

Featured Replies

I am a South African and is 39 years of age, single parent have an 11 year old son. I am seriously thinking about moving to Thailand and applying for a teaching job. My concern is the school fees. I looked at a few schools (international) and there is no way I could afford the fees. are there english medium schools in Thailand that is both affordable and good quality / standard of education?

Hmmm. Difficult situation.

If your set on coming to Thailand, and your son is 11. ( I assume he is not Thai.) that rules out the Thai schools. Language barrier.

You don't have the money for an international school, which is no shame there.

Have you given thought of home-schooling?

Perhaps your country has some sort of testing program where he could get his diploma in the future after a home school program.

Worth checking out.

Let's move this over to the Family and Children forum. ;)

If you are well qualified as a teacher, and could reasonably get a job teaching at an international school where all instruction is in English, I expect that many will offer a significant reduction or waiver in the tuition of a faculty member's child/children. That, I think, is your best and only hope.

Above is correct. A teacher doesn't earn much, (30,000 baht a month) but a fully qualified native speaker at an international school makes significantly more.

It depends on your qualifications.

Plenty of international schools also offer scholarships. I know my school (KIS International School) does. Good luck!
