SIBERIAN TIGER CUBS AT KHAO KHEOW ZOO WILL BE SHOWN TO THE PUBLIC THIS WEEKEND

4 Siberian tiger cubs have been born at Khao Kheow (เขาเขียว) Open Zoo, less than a year after their parents took up residence at the zoo.

Mr. Suriya Saengphong (สุริยา แสงพงศ์), the zoo's director, revealed that the 1.6 million baht pair of Siberian tigers had arrived at the zoo on May 24th this year. The male, Dimtri (ดิมทรี), is 3 years old, and the female, Kila (ไคล่า), is 4 years of age.

On August 29th Kila gave birth to 4 cubs; 2 males, 2 females. However, the mother had killed one by laying on it. Doctors have been giving close care to the 3 remaining cubs, which will be displayed to the public for the first time this weekend. There will also be a naming contest, to seek Thai names for the cubs.

Siberian tigers are large tigers, with reports suggesting the biggest one measured 13 feet from the nose-tip to the tail, and weighed 360 kilograms. They are found in forests in Siberia, the northern region of North Korea and China, as well as the south-eastern region of Russia. The mammal consumes roughly 25-35 kilograms of meat, which will last it 4-6 days. The pregnancy timeframe is 100-120 days, and 2 off-springs are born per time on average.
