Sa Kaeo border trade remains open

BANGKOK, 13 January 2011 (NNT) -The border between Thailand and Cambodia in Sa Kaeo province remains open given there have been no reports of any attack, according to the Sa Kaeo Chamber of Commerce.

Sa Kaeo Chamber of Commerce President Bamrung Locharoenwattanachai reported that the number of people crossing over the Aranyaprathet Border Checkpoint dropped on Sunday on the back of rumors of attacks from Cambodian troops.

But after checking with the local authority about the situation at the border, he was informed that the border area in Ka Kaeo province remained safe, and there was no need for the army to reinforce its troops in the area. In addition, both Thai and Cambodian authorities at the border continued maintaining good relations and often talking and exchanging information with each other.

The president further explained that the Aranyaprathet Border was an important economic trading point for both Thai and Cambodian traders; attacks in Sa Kaeo were, therefore, unlikely.
