You have to be really careful that you are getting 100% petrol, called benzene in Thai. 95 petrol is not available around Phuket, except for the cheapo gas station just before the airport turnoff on the main highway. If you ask for 95 benzine at any gas station they will just pump gasohol in a sort of mai pen rai attitude. You car will work fine for a while, but eventually the carb will get gummed up. Surprised that such a new car as the Mazda 2 does not take gasahol.

If I may suggest, read your owner manual carefully.

Owner manuel says.. Regular unleaded fuel 90 or above..

Well........that's 91 red......innit.

There should be a sticker on the inside of the door which covers your filler cap,

This will tell you which types of fuel are suitable.

Do not trust garage attendants, they really do not care what fuel they put in

Just looked it says Regular unleaded

Ethanol (E0 - E20)

So Green 91(Gasahol) is fine to use as this contains ETHANOL

Sounds like you can use any of the petrol based fuels, but i would use

91 red until i was sure.

You may have received a handbook in Thai, thats what i got.

Ask the car dealer for one in English,

They supplied me with one free of charge but i had to wait 3 weeks for it

Mazda 2 can use 91 and 95 octane, and can use benzene/petrol, or gasohol E10 or Gasohol E20. The E tells how much Ethanol is blended with petrol.

My experience is E20 increases consumption slightly, so my recomondation is Gasohol E10 for this car.

There is no advantage to use 95 over 91 in this car

Many pumps still sell only two different petrols/gasohol, 91 petrol and 95 Gasohol E10. As 95 Gasohol E10 is subsidised/tax reduced, it costs less than 91 petrol.

10% or 20% ethanol won't gum up or corrode even older engines. not even over time.

It's the E85 ethanol that will cause the problems through corroding soft metals and rubbers seal/hoses.

E10 damages most cars and bikes older than 2005, rubber and plastic parts in fuelsystem(gaskets, pump, injection). the melted parts can end up in engines combustion chamber causing major damage. I have had two 2005 bikes damaged by one mistaken fill up of Gasohol E10, 1800cc and 200cc. E20 compatible vehicles get a discount on excise tax in LOS, still not all are compatible. Only a few Honda bikes are E20 compatibel, Yamaha and Kawasaki are not

very few vehicles can run E85, 2010 Volvo S80 2,5 FT and 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer 1,8 are the only ones sold new in LOS.

Very confusing here I have seen red and green pumps and today orange, I used green 91 Gasahol the first time I filled up and car is running great so will continue to use this,

in the Shell stations they use a yellow/orange colored pump for the 91 gasohol/ save fuel....same like the green but should save some fuel....(according the advertisements...)

it`s also +- 33 bath....same price the green gasohol....it`s the same and perfect for your car also Kenny......dont waste your money on red 91(40+bath)........

petrol/gasohol is confusing in Thailand. To many mixes to choose from, and different names/colors in different oil companies, and lack of knowledgable staff at pump

but your mazda 2 can run anything, so no worries
