Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before.. but I can't seem to find an answer.

I'm coming to Thailand next month for 3 or 4 weeks before carrying on to Laos/Vietnam. I'm flying into Bangkok but out from Hanoi.

When I booked my tickets, the travel agent explained that I needed to apply for my visa before I travelled as I am not flying out of Thailand.

When I look at the Thai Embassy website (in the UK), I'm very confused if I need to apply for a simple tourist visa or for a transit visa... can someone shed some light ?

Also, when they ask to prove your financial means (20,000 baht)... what am I supposed to do? Show them a bank statement, bring the money in cash ?

Thx in advance

1. Because you do not have outbound air ticket within 30 days of arrival you require a visa (30 day stay on arrival requires ticket out). Not likely to be checked by immigration but often is checked by airline who could refuse to let you board.

2. You should obtain a tourist visa.

3. You should have cash/travelers check to meet the 20k baht requirement with you but it is not likely to be asked. You could use an atm or credit card to withdraw from atm if required.

ok, thx for this !

One last thing, the 20k, (ok this is probably dumb) is it for when I apply for the visa in the embassy here, or for when they check it at the border crossing ?

thx

If you are flying into Singapore before BKK, Airport in Sing will want to see your return ticket out of BKK most of the time , which you have if you are leaving for VN.

Just wanna say to add to Lopburis post that they are very unlikely to ask for this, in fact I have never heard of it happen before. Its just one of those rules that they have but never enforce, especially when your entry point is the airport.
