Where To Get The Thai Drivers Licence?

Recommended Posts

I have searched the forum and have seen one office mentioned near the weekend market and one office around Thonglor/soi 55 or 63.

What is the office called and could someone give more specific directions please?

Also; would there not be an office closer to downtown (Sathorn/Silom) I could go to?

Cheers!

1032 Phaholyothin Road, near the Chatuchak (Jatujak) weekend market.

BANGKOK: The Driving License Sub-Division of the Motor Vehicles Registration Office, Tel: 02 279-2959 will tell you where to find the right place. Sukhumvit residents, go to Soi 99. Exit the expressway at Soi 62, turn right into Sukhumvit Road and then left (at Diethelm Building) walk down the long side street and it is on the left at the end of the street

Closer to town???

:o:D:D

The places Bambina outlined are the ones you need to check out. The Australian and New Zealand Womans Group guide to Bangkok has a very good outline and the contact details.

Hmmm... according to the link from axel THIS is the office that covers Sathorn:

Transport Office Area 1, located in Soi Wathuakrabue at km 4.5, Bangkunthien . Shaithalae, Thakham sub-district, Bangkhunthien district, Bangkok 10150 (tel: 415-7337). Applications are accepted from persons who live in the following districts: Bangkhunthien, Bangborn, Jomthong, Thonburi, Klongsarn, Rardburana, Thungkru, Bangkolaem, Yannawa and Sathorn.

That sounds a bit far..... to thicken the plot the AUS/NZ Womens group book does not even MENTION Sathorn.... maybe we are not allowed to get a drivers license here.. :o

Has anybody went to an office that did not cover your "area"(see above link) and had a problem? Cheers!

Yes it depends on where you live.

If you are in the Suk area, down past On Nut BTS is Soi 62. On the

odd side is Soi 99 and a big Land Transport Office facility.

I got my Thai DL there.

If you have a home country license, you need not take the

driving or written (have in English there) tests and will be out in

one or two hours. Otherwise it will be most of the day assuming you

have the required Embassy address statement and medical certificate.

Good luck
