House Clearance

Does anybody know of some house clearance speacialists, we are moving from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin and have accumulated a lot of house furnishings in the last 3-4 years.Rather than advertise everything separately and have a lot of time wasters,we would rather have someone come and look at everything and give us a fair price. Locations and phone numbers would be appreciated.

Thanks-Keithkarmann

There are a number of second hand / antique furniture stores on the super highway -- 1st ring road around the Chang Pueck intersection. You might want to go in there and ask what there policy is with buying or taking furniture on consignment.

There is a fairly good market for used items in Chiang Mai, and if you list them on the Church Classifieds Newsletter, Citylife of line, and craigslist, there is a captive audience who looks for second hand furniture at a reasonable and fair price. It may take a few ads and several buyers, but selling it through a dealer will almost net you zero.

Yes.. you will either waste time, or waste money. Choose your poison.

And your suggestion would be.....

Crime of the century, if you was brainwashed in US.

A Yard Sale with realistic prices is the way to go. Most of the Yard Sales I've been to are notable for the silly money people seem to think their stuff is worth.

Arrange it into Lots so people take the mediocre stuff to get the good.

Warning to all, this man is just wasting your time. I went to his house with a truck and when I finally got him to show me what was for sale (after his life story he kept reading from a list instead of just pointing since it was a tiny place) and I choose a table and chair set he told he that it was for sale but not now?!? Did he really think I was going to go all the way there in a few months for a 1500 bht used piece of furniture? If he and his wife need a friend to talk to that's fine but post "need a friend" instead of tricking me to come over and wasting my familie's Sunday that we reserve to spend together.

Excellent. :) Thanks for following up Junglechef.

Thanks everybody for your input, just about everything is sold now by using Thai Visa and City Life classifieds.

We were not prepared to sell things for less than a third of their new price as someone who posted thought we should-The words timewaster and cheapskate come to mind. Some people have nothing else to do but drive around on Sunday having a look at what people are selling and offering stupid low prices. We were not that desperate and we would rather give things away to needy people if we could not get close to half the new price on the things we sold.We have been paid the full asking price for the table and chairs.Just be wary if you are selling things and try to be more selective of the people you allow to visit your house. On the whole we have got very close to 50% of the new price for all the items we have sold.

Again thanks for all the positive comments.

Not interested in getting into a tit for tat but let the truth be told I offered 1000 bht for something that he was asking 1500 bht for and when he said no I said ok to the full asking price and his response was that his wife just informed him it was not for sale now even though she was not to be seen.

You will love Hua Hin. but hard to find unfurnished rentals if you are after renting a house.
