Avast Is Harassing Me

Featured Replies

I keep getting the above pop up everytime I go to a new webpage. I am then invited to visit community info where all which is there is beating the drum how many are saved by Avast from malware and a solicitation to subscribe to an ubgrade! How can I get rid of this spam? Do I perhaps have to uninstall Avast and resubscribe to the basic free service?

Any advise highly appreciated.

I only get this warning when actually going to a URL with a problem.

My guess is your PC or browser has already been infected in some way causing it to connect to known virus websites whenever you go anywhere, or something has become corrupted.

Try first clearing your browser cache and check that. If this doesn't fix the problem I suggest you run an anti-malware check such as Malwarebytes - you can download it for free for example from download.com. If that doesn't indicate any problems you should probably remove Avast and reinstall it or some other antivirus package.

You have some kind of infection in your browser or cache, download spybot search and destroy, update it fully then scan your system.

Thanks everyone, I canned Avast and downloaded Avira which detected and put into quarantine a TR/Dropper Gen. Computer is back to normal and seems to run better again too. Hope this solves my problem or could there still be "after shocks" from this virus?

I think Avast is a fantastic program. There are scanning options to use. A full scan can take several hours. If it finds something it will also recommend a boot time scan which will take several hours more. Avast works hand in hand with another program called "Malwarebytes"...more scanning which can take awhile.
