Can I use a blackberry on pay as you go if I want push email functionality, facebook chat and blackberry messenger? I haven't started my job yet so I think it's not possible to get a monthly contract.

Yes, all three companies offer prepaid plans for what you need. Around 300 to 350 baht per month. You can also get a postpaid from DTAC if you have a credit card from a foreign country for collateral for the first three billing cycles.

All three will do pay as you go, probably 80% of thailand is on PAYG so they would be shooting them selves in the foot..

I pay 250 baht a month with true for a BIS which includes all normal BB stuff and unlimited use of internet through the BB APN, not the fastest but ok for when no wifi
