OK, at long last just received my WP which runs out within days of them issuing it (surprise surprise) !

Now im being told that I have to keep extending it every 15 days, in line with a 15 day continuous visa extension (I only had a Non B single entry). This is a pain in the ar*e to say the least !

I was under the impression that once I get the WP the single entry can be extended to a 12 month multiple ? Effectively meaning I only have to extend the WP every 90 days, this seems now to be not the case, could anyone enlighten me on this ?

Also, now I have a WP is this sufficient enough for me to go back to Penang and obtain a multiple entry ?

I was also under impression that I could apply for a 1 year visa which means I dont have to bail out and just report to the immigration every 90 days ? Is this true and how do I go about it ?

Hope someone can help me on this before I go mad !!! :o

Thanks Bob, some very helpful points on there. Apart from the 2-3 weeks waiting time for the WP, not if your in Phuket ! Took me 8 weeks to get mine, even though everything was spot on with the documents !

So basically to get a 1 year extension you have to go back & forwards to the immigration for months until they decide to give you one ?

So it could take several months for the 1 year visa to get approved ? Well me reckons seeing as everything takes twice as long in Phuket as it does anywhere else it will take more than a year for me to get it, which defeats the whole object of it all ? :o

Re-entry permit ? Does this mean that anyone waiting for there 1 year extension requires one if they leave the country ? Is this re-entry visa in place of a non B visa or do you require both ? :D

The re-entry permit keeps your extension of stay alive so you do not need a B visa as long as extensions take place.

But if you plan to travel you will require a new re-entry permit each time you receive a new extension as the expiration dates will be the same and you will need to return before expiration to obtain a new extension.

OK, got yer ! So as long as you apply for a re-entry permit every time you leave it wont affect your current extension, kind of a permission to leave yeah ? :unsure

The first application is troublesum and can go 2-3 months with these nie stamps. "Still under consideration, come back next month".

The WP can only be extented to the date of such stamp but is cheaper than the final WP-extention for 1 year, or what is left of it.

And yes, any re-entry permit in your p/port becomes void once the extention-application is under way. You do need a new one even if the time still is ok.

So what is the cost for the 1 year extension ? I was told that you had to pay the 1,900 baht immigration fee every 15 days, then add the cost of extending the work permit at the Employment Office to keep it in line ?

If this is the case surely the 1 year extension must be the cheaper option ? :o

There is no charge at Immigration for the sequential "under consideration" extensions - but these are normally for 30 days at a time (not 15).

But - for each 30 day extension, you do need to revlaidate your work permit - 850 baht to the government there - each time.

And - a fresh re-entry permit for every 30 day extension - if you will depart Thailand.

But - you do not personally have to appear at either Immigration or work permit office - except for the re-entry permits. Just your passport and work permit booklet need to go to the permit offices - that's the type of service that a company such as mine provides - for customers who have better things to do with their time (although we only support customers in greater Bangkok).

Good luck!

Bugger ! I knew my lawyer was trying to rip me off ! Says I have to pay 15k for the 1 year extension ! :o

Problem now is this, I have been told that my company wont be able to get the documents ready in time for the 1 year extension application, immigration dont seem to be helpful, I ask for an extension and even offer topay the 1,900 baht but they just keep passing me another application form for the 1 year extension !

So my WP/stamp expires on the 6th and I dont have enough time to lodge the 1 year application, is my only option a border run for a new stamp ? I have been told that I cant extend my WP on a 30 day tourist stamp ? Is this true ? :D

I reckon the lawyer needs to go ! :D

As for the question "should I stay or should I go", it would be nice to hear the outcome on this, I have a similar situation myself. :D

Well the clock is ticking away and the WP I waited so long for is slipping away :D

Had my 4th trip to Immigration today and still no joy, they wont give an extension and keep asking for the application for a 1 year stay, which I cant give to them as I dont have time to prepare. My only hope seems to be a border run so if anyone out there could give me a word of advice.

So, can a WP be extended with a 30 day tourist stamp ?

The guy in immigration says if I cant present the 1 year application forms before my stamp expires he will grant me an extension on my last day, problem is I dont trust him as he has already lied to me once. Should he go back on his word and a 30 day stamp is sufficient enough it will be too late and the WP goes down the drain ! :D
